Yesterday her Ladyship came back from visiting her mum. Her left eye was like an orange "dayglo" golf ball. She does suffer from a pollen allergy. So she said: "I thought this LR had a pollen filter fitted - and if it does it isn't working Can you check that it isn't blocked - did they change it at the last service

Yes she was not a happy bunny and I got an ear full. So please help this non-techy chap as I've just had my head inside the Owners' Manual and have found nothing on this subject.

a) if the FL2 has a pollen filter where is it located?
b) and, how do you get to it and remove it?
c) what's the LR part number for a replacement?

Replies by tonight early evening please as I'm sure she'll come home barking her head off on this subject again resulting in another Force Ten ear ache for yours truly

on right hand drive ones its in the passenger footwell forward of the central console, remove glovebox for easy access. i dare say its in the same place on left handers so look to the right of throttle pedal At work

Just watched the video link and read all the postings on what went wrong who broke what. Sounds like a slowly gently job. I'll report back any breakage or cut/scrapped fingers.

Q: If these are carbon based filters can they not be simply washed/dysoned out and left to dry as an interim measure before I do a 120kms round trip just to get a new filter?

Could her ladyship not have got the pollen in her eye before getting in the car? Tell her you've checked and it's ok, see if she gets another swollen eye, then tell her

Prevention is better than the cure, and hand her a packet of piriton

Tell her 'Ladyship' that you are the boss and that swelling of the left eye could be repeated for the right eye, irrespective of the pollen filter.

.... or just go and change it for a quiet life

FL2 back here at lunchtime so had a quick look and:

a) CG - LHD models - Pollen Filter is in the front passenger footwell to the left of fuse box
b) No need to remove glove box - the very flexible LR branded filter came out simply past the fuse box.
c) Taking out Pollen Filter took no more than 2 minutes
d) Used the Dyson to give it a good clean
e) Replaced Pollen Filter in less than 2 minutes.

Job done in 5 to 6mins.

Q: when you look into the conduit after the PF has been removed you can see an array of what look like a dozen "Blue Pencils" deep inside. What are those things for? Anyone know

Finally, I told her the LR PF is in good health (going by the date stamp on it the local LR Service centre did change it at the last annual service) and she's stopped shouting at me - bless her.

Piriton indeed Mr Pinks. Her Ladyship is a very experienced Doctor and can prescribe something more appropriate and powerful for her horrid eye infection. All I said to her at breakfast was to go and stick a cold eye patch over it and pretend you're practising for a role in an Easter Play. Her bark is as sharp as her scalpel
