Flying Fish

salmon fishing........on a grand scale.

Salmon reared in a fish farm, the boat docks at Lochaline in the Sound of Mull and the Salmon are collected from Loch Arienas and flown to the boat, takes about two minutes flying time and they were at it for 4-5 hours Shocked

10 minutes by road between the two, the road is very narrow and no way would you get a decent vehicle up to the farm.
Helicopter must be best way, it was a private company normally used for electricity line checks.
Obviously money in Salmon

I wouldn't worry about the carbon footprint but the ecological damage created by these farms. The seabed surrounding these cages is devoid of all life form and the blooms of sea lice(parasite which attaches to the salmon) created by these farms attack migrating sea trout and salmon smolts causing high levels of mortality and a subsequent decline in returning mature salmon. The way forward has got to be by close containment but this comes at a price and the multi nationals like Marine Harvest are resisting this with £millions being spent on their "good" PR credentials. I had the opportunity to go fishing off Vancouver Island last year ( 6 fish between 10 -14lb in 4 hours + one lovely one trashed by seal Laughing ), the Canadian Government seem to have it right they release bilions of farm bred salmon fry into the sea every year to keep the Fishing Industry in business, keeps the natural cycle of the food chain going and it also supports tourism, they seem to have got it right 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership
