One point that seem to recall has been s is that WD make you pay for the work then 'try' to claim it back from them whereas LR pay the bill and it's carried out by LR people 2002 Honda VFR800

I will second Dave's pos, I would go with the lR warranty, they are much less likely to try to wriggle out of anything. |

I've been on the receiving end of that from WD too. I took the WD top package and was forced to pay for a wheel bearing at around £250 and then attempted to claim it back. It was definitely included in the policy, but they tried just about everything to wriggle out of the claim It took about 3 weeks of fighting before they relented. I would never use them again. |

I'm in a similar position. I've also read previous posts but I am erring on the side of not even bothering with a warranty at all and leaving the money in the bank. As far as I can tell the most common expensive faults appear to be rear diff, power steering pump/rack and of course the clutch. I'm not sure Land Rover would pay out on the clutch on a 4 year old freelander if it failed (wear and tear) which leaves the rear diff and the pump/rack. The latter costs about £700 to rectify and might not fail at all. Clearly you can have engine/gearbox failures in any vehicle but I'm of the opinion freelanders are no worse than any other car on the road it's just forums understandably focus on the cars faults. All warranties are insurance policies with the odds stacked in favour of the insurer. The "wear an tear" and "service/maintenance operations and adjustments" give the insurer a fair degree of wriggle room when it comes to dealing with a claim. Has anyone got any info on the success rate of extended warranty claims? |

Hi - I recently had the same decision to make regarding whether to get Extended Warranty via LR, Warranty Direct or Warranty Wise and I did start a post on this forum to that affect.

Really appreciate the thoughts on this. You've all helped me make my mind up and I'll stick with LR! The next bit is interesting though...

Well we have just gone with LR. The Freelander is coming up to four years old this month, and has been on LR extended warranty since we bought it. The rear doorlock job was not too expensive, i believe, but the airbag job was a $800 job,(800 quid, pound sign has stopped working?)so warranty saved us that. The paperwork just came through offering renewal, no mention of checks etc. |
