France Decrees Mandatory breathalyzers in all cars as of Jul

Gents,

Not sure if people are aware of this yet so i thought i d post.

The french, as poor as they are have just made a silly law and will bring it into effect as of Jul,

http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1073607...-by-july-1

They want all drivers in france to carry a disposable breathalyzer, nice idea, i understand why in alot of ways....but if your already driving...isnt it a bit late, or is it just so the french police could use your breathalyzer to save their costs when they test you!!!

I live in Germany and several of my collegues have been stopped over the last few months only to be interogated over illuminous vests being carried and fined if they werent available, dispite them only going from the boarder of france the 10 mins to dunkerque after travelling the 6 hours through 4 other european countries that havent made an extensive packing list.

I hope others wont get caught out the same, let alone think of driving whilst tipsy.

Surely the countries should produce an EU list to be the same across europe, but then that would be too easy. Grip over.

Happy traveling.

i know, i rib the wife all the time, she past her test in germany a few years ago, it was my own fault mind you, i did say i d get her a new car if she passed!!!

we always end up arguing in the car if she drives as she was taught to hold it on the foot brake with the clutch pedal on the floor in gear at all junctions and only use the hand brake for parking!!!!

silly thing is whilst she is british, she doesnt like driving in UK due to round abouts!!!!!

I don't know what planet you live on nutnboltcombat but:

a) Belgium / France border to Dunkerque in 10mins - you'd do it in Concorde of course, otherwise all your friends drive Veyrons, and even that could not do it in 10mins as it takes at least 4mins to drive from the motorway exit (J24 Loon Pleage) to the ferry port itself let alone the 28kms from the Belgium border to J24 at the legal limit and avoiding all those French motorway speed cameras on that particular stretch of road. Rolling with laughter

b) The new French traffic regulation re the carrying of the Breathalyser Kit is effective only at present on French registered cars. And incidentally has not yet passed into French law as it is awaiting their Senate's full approval. Whistle

Be accurate and precise, and do not behave like a reporter from the Sunday Sport seeking alarmist and inaccurate scoops to promote your story. There's enough factual traffic legislation around the EU to warrant FreeL2 members to pay attention to when travelling on the European mainland, without this type of cheap inaccurate scare mongering.

ok so its 20 miles, so it equates to 20 mins when driving 60MPH after driving for 6 hours through from north germany.

And it wasnt scare mongery, it's fact that it will be pushed through the french gov by the end of the year, and it will effect all cars transiting through france like the hi vis jackets.

please dont have a go at me, i m just making people aware of what is coming round the corner, in my job its call looking after one another!

It has everything to do with FL2's, or any other make of vehicle, especially if you're driving over to France Rolling Eyes ______________________

France 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Narvik Black

I am off to France in July and will have one of these on board together with Hi Viz vests and the rest of the European touring malarky.

Regardless of whether they are technically required or not, for the sake of £2.50 (a crap one from Amazon) why risk a pointless conversation with French plod which may ruin the holiday feel?

Do not forget as well, if you must go to France, and have one of them gizzmo,s that alert you to speed traps and over speed warning things, and other nasty French surprises, they are now illegal in France since Jan 1 st

so chuck the tom tom and use an analogue sat nav ( paper map ) give the kid,s a new game ..Spot the french cop... better than I-Spy .. you get more hits as well ...

OR go to Wales instead, (at least you will still not understand the language) and we need the foreign exchange more than the French !!! Wales

"Thanks for the Heads-Up"
incredulous. You applaud the mishmash and the misrepresentation of the OP's alarmist topic headline and content that was derisively embellished with prodigious camp worthy of a "Boy's Own" tale. The effect of that served only (especially upon the approach of the Easter holidays) to unnecessarily increase the anxiety of UK motorists about to drive through France. It was neither timely, useful or worthy.

"Lighten up a little"
Far better to "warm-in" to the hot bytes on Martin's server with the sumptuous dishes served by Alex's mechanical mastery, Toeknee's socialite gatherings, Mighty Mildred's chronicles of TVLR, CG's perplexing wit, Npink's calcifying censorship, JulyTourist's dilapidation iconography, Superspark's charged gems, The Doctor's delusions, McP's cosmetic creations and the many other proficient posters, too numerous to mention, daily adding substance to FreeL2. Folks that actually know how to put a nut and bolt together to constitute a posting of merit. And pedro, that includes the many readers of The Guardian who are car enthusiasts.

I wish you all an informative week.
