2.2 swirl port inlet manifold / EGR / Turbo design changes?

Does anybody know about Swirl port inlet manifolds?
I have a 2010 GS bought with wrecked engine and have bought a low miles 2009 2.2 engine. The engines are fractionally different, the 2010 inlet manifold has linked flaps inside the upper four 'tube' holes actuated in unison by a vacuum servo unit. The 2009 manifold is the same plastic moulding but has no flaps system. can anybody tell me why the difference?
The 2010 engine has a different EGR assembly with stainless cooler. The 2009 engine has an EGR with cast alloy cooler and the EGR inlet port has a vacuum actuator operated from a servo vacuum valve on the front of the engine.
Here again does anybody know what and why?
I am putting all the 2010 ancililliary items on to the 2009 base engine before instalation including the Turbo as the actuator linkeage is a fraction different

    .
Does any whiz kid have any advice for me on any of the above.

I've just taken delivery of my 13MY replacing 2008 (09MY) so I've noted the external changes to the engine as well as the specs (although metal and glass remain the same).

I believe you are describing some of the changes for the engine/vehicle to meet Euro 5 emissions and maintain (as much as poss) performance and economy. So long as all the actuators are connected and not looking for external connections from the engine harness, you should be OK. Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red
Gone... 2008 (09MY) XS Td4 Manual Stornaway Grey
Prior... 2003 G4 Discovery 2, 1998 Disco 1 and 1997 Disco 1 Company car before that
Also gone in Nov'13, after 7.5 yrs, to new owners with time for more TLC - 1980 Series III 88
Current 2015 Discovery Sport HSE 2.0
