Is 70k-100k high mileage for 2007 TD4 FL2 first purchase.

Hi i really want to buy my first freelander 2 with a £10k-£15k budget.
A lot of 2007 models for sale seem to be 70K-100k or more. I know diesels last longer but are they getting expensive to maintain and run at this mileage.
Also would it be preferable to choose a 50k GS or a 90k SE for similar money.
I know im not going to be popular for saying this but i want to tow a medium size caravan and use a Maxxraxx bike rack at the same time. Then have a decent family car when not towing.

Estonia 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Tambora Flame

Mine has done 165k metric - that's about 100k mi. No problems so far.
When properly maintained these engines should do 300k mi with ease.

I've driven a 407 with the same engine and it had done 289k km. It drove great.

if you must tow a van get the auto, seriously the clutches are the achilles heel of the fl2.

think carefully about an auto look at recent posts on here about auto boxes failing on 2007/08 reg, Big Cry others will disagree but manual may be better for you Wink , not as dear to repair if it goes wrong some have had problems with clutches going 800/1000 pounds to replace with duelmass fly wheel got to be better than 3.5k for an auto box Whistle also cheaper insurance and road tax on a manual Thumbs Up rainy-city

France 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Narvik Black

As with any car purchase, the history of the vehicle is paramount. If it has been looked after, not thrashed and serviced regularly 100k is no problem. I would prefer one like that than a 30k car that has been abused. Also, a car that has done 100k of motorway driving may be better than a 30k car that has done all stop start short journeys.

The moral is find out about its past before you buy anything, look carefully at the service record and talk to the previous owner if buying from the trade. John

Had thought about the manual auto choice after reading about the clutch problems and this is my biggest concern.
Never had an auto but like the idea of no clutch but dont like lower MPG or acceleration, not that im planning to boot it about. Another problem is all my other cars ar manual so i can see problems switching between them.
My caravan is only 1250kg so it wont be on its limit.
A car this age will be out of manufactures warranty. I will try and get some kind of generic warranty if buying from a dealer. I have read on other posts that aftermarket clutches seem to be lasting longer.
The other decision is wether to buy a FL2 with a towbar already fitted and used for towing. Chances are if the cluch was going to go it would have already been replaced.

So unfortunately we have about 6 auto failures at the moment from around the world, its a catastrophe for individual owners but in reality who knows the extent of these failures? I could be that there are 500,000 out there that are happy Exclamation
The Aisin Warner has gone through a variety of modifications since 2006 and the very same box is used by Ford, Mazda, Alfa, Citroen, Lancia, Vauxhall, Peugeot, Renault, Saab and Volvo so they can't be duds, just very unfortunate breakdowns like any other breakdown.
If you tow, go for an Auto.

England

It seems that some people are saying that they suffer DMF and clutch failure at 20k and from those that have posted they seem to be non towers, the Auto box seems to be suffering around the 60k mark (three DMF and Clutch adds up to one Auto Box replacement) the Auto Boxes all seem to manufactured around the same time and appearing on the ones registered in 2007.

After 2 virtually fault free Freelander 2 manuals, I'd happily buy another.

A small thing to consider is that the Freelander handbrake is not the best in the world. Hill starts with a manual box with a trailer on the back can be interesting!! I suspect it would be a lot easier with an auto. 2007 TD4 SE Manual Santrini Black
