Scotland
4x4 Response and Strathclyde Police

Strathclyde Police have formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Strathclyde 4x4 Response. (This is the agreement between the organisations that sets out the relationship and how they work together.) Strathclyde Police is one of the largest forces in the UK with approximately 8,000 police officers and 2,400 police staff, covers 12 local authorities and nearly 2.3 million people across 5,371 square miles of Scotland.

I'm telling you about this because I've spoken to quite a few people who have been holding off joining 4x4 Response until "something was happening". It is a nice idea to think that if a situation arises where the community needs help from 4x4 vehicles, then you can just turn up and help. However, there are so many things that need to be in place to make use of "convergent volunteers", as they are called, that the official response from most quarters is generally, "Thanks, but no thanks!". So I'm looking for those of you who might be interested in participating to contact me, either through a PM here or an email, if you are in the Strathclyde area. If you are not, I can put you in touch with your local group.

The purpose of having 4x4 Response groups is to make arrangments in advance for things like security clearance, insurance, communications, training, "Protecting Vulnerable Groups", Health and Safety, callout arrangement and many more. Once these things are in place, then the 4x4 community can be made use of rapidly and effectivly to help the rest of our wider community. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!

Our group (Peak 4x4) is well organised and communication was clear and precise on the call outs I did. Here is the post I put up recently:
