Freelander2 Bluetooth with Iphone. I really like it.

Bluetooth in cars either seems to work well or not at all with various phones (and that goes for any other car I've driven with Bluetooth). However, I've been lucky in the Freelander. It's always worked very well with my Iphone (4 and 3Gs).
I use my iphone as my ipod in the car and was mulling over the lack of controls for changing tracks etc when the iphone is plugged into the AUX socket. Then it hit me. Voice control.
In my last car (a BMW) it's Bluetooth stereo has a voice control function. I never used it though. You had to record
names by voice in the car system (even if you had already done it in the phone).
Now the Freelander Bluetooth doesn't have it's own voice control feature but it does pass through the command to initiate voice control by holding in the call button on the steering wheel for a couple of seconds.

I've found voice control to operate the iphone for phone calls to be fine but of course you can also use it to control the ipod feature. To be honest it seems to work very well. Slow perhaps but it still allows me to tell it to play a particular playlist, skip a track, turn shuffle on etc.

Just thought I'd mention it...

A good tip.

I tried voice control and ended up in all kinds of bother with it.
Especially dialing people I didn't want to call!

Here's a list of what can be done using voice control.
Didn't realise you can ask the time on iPhone 4.
I am also intrigued what happens when you ask for "help"!

It's not perfect..

Hi Aiieex,

When I got the iphone4 it worked really well until 4.2 of ios. Then it became almost useless. However with 4.3.x it seems to be working well again.
To be honest I find voice control on most things a bit of a waste of time so to have something that seems to work more often than not is quite useful.
This morning was typical. I started a journey with one playlist and as soon as I got moving knew that I wanted to listen to something else. A few words and I was. It saves having to pull over or fiddle with the phone the next time you get stuck at lights.
The other thing is, even if you could control tracks with the steering wheel controls, unless you can navigate the ipod menu blindly or have a screen to see what you're doing, it's seems so much easier just telling it what you want.

How do I use this.please? Do I switch voice control on before the journey? Do I then pull the steering wheel dial button to play a track? Do I pull it agin to give another voice command? And does the music play through the car or the iPhone? Many thanks in advance.

Tyke just hold the green call button on the steering wheel for a couple of seconds to turn on voice control and speak your command.

Npinks maybe it dosen't like Yorkshire accents did a similar thing to me once. Gone, 2007 TD4 SE Auto Baltic blue, clear side repeaters, full sized alloy spare.

I thought I'd try the voice control on the iPhone before trying it in the car. When I said 'Play artist Enya' all I could get was 'calling the Cartridge Centre'.

Then I realised that I've never had any music on my iPhone!

It's either an age thing, a Yorkshire thing or a Yorkshire age thing!

That's bad if you're going to have more than one day make it pay day. Gone, 2007 TD4 SE Auto Baltic blue, clear side repeaters, full sized alloy spare.
