Wynns diesel additive used at routine service.

Hi to all, having spent hours gleaning information from your site, I thought I'd better join you. Nothing special about my FL2, it's an 07 GS and it's had the usual problems:

Rear parking sensors, took 3 trips to the dealer before they rectified it. Told them it was wet weather related but they didn't believe me.

Cold weather usually means a message stating the Drivers door is open and goes when the vehicle warms up. This means I cannot lock it, awkward if I've got a firearm with me. Does anyone know where the sensor is located?

Low/flat battery and associated starting problems, it happened again last week. I've read most of the theories of what causes this but is there an official (ie LR) explanation.

Anyway, on to my question to all you whizz-kids, what is the Wynns diesel additive that dealers include in the service routine and why is it added. 11 GS Bali Blue

Wynns is basically a fuel additive which may offer some benefits in terms of replacing some of the additives that are not in the cheaper grade fuels. I just bung in about 300ml of cheap 2 stroke oil with every fill-up. Cheers,

The adition of Wynns Diesel Additive is a profit making excersise. Slightly out of touch with prices but at least 100% mark up.
Wynns, Forte, all the same.
In handbook you are warned that additives may affect your warranty.

Don't get me wrong some good additives work very well, when emission testing first started on petrol and diesel the shopping trolley/school bus car would never have passed an MOT test without some help.

For diesels today 2 stroke is better than anything else. All FL2's (3) Gone

As 'bigalf' picked up on, it's not what 'Wynns Additive' can do for you, but the statement that

Do they Exclamation I haven't had a service yet so I do not know.

Ref wynns additive, I've just found an invoice from LR dealer (Matfords) which shows:

ZWYN001 Wynns diesel treatment.

The charge for this was about £10.

So back to my original question , what is this magic fluid?

With reference to the 2-stroke discussion the ratio 1:200 was stated. Don't know if the dealer was that precise in calculating the amount to be added or maybe they just tipped the whole lot in regardless of the amount of fuel in the tank.

My last servicing was done by an independent garage (who used to do my Defenders) and no mention of additives.
Might give the 2-stroke idea a try. 11 GS Bali Blue

So people, those who have had a service, have your LR dealer been adding additives Question Confused, should they or shouldn't they

Wynns additives go back a long way so is/was a well known brand, it does what most diesel additives supposedly do and keeps the injectors clean, remove carbon, reduce smoke and add a little lubricity. (supposedly)

Sounds like the local Wynns rep has done a deal with the dealer. They used to do something called the "Service Guarantee Kit" which basically meant that Wynns products (RSL, Wynns for Oil and Fuel Treatment) got put in the car and if anything went wrong with the engine Wynns paid out. This was done automatically without asking the customer who was of course charged for it. Sounds like they are doing something similar now. You have the option of going back to them, saying you didn't ask for it and get your money back....if you really want to kick up a full you can demand that they empty the tank and re-fill it! John

Interesting that about Wynns but at my last service the dealer added a Scott's oil and fuel purge and charged me £27 for it. Is that the same thing? Ralph

Won't be going back to the dealer, it would cost more in diesel and I can't be bothered to have another bust up. They also charged me for topping up my washer bottle when I'd purposely topped it up the night before. They did sheepishly give me a bottle of LR screen wash as compensation when I questioned this on the invoice. 11 GS Bali Blue

I've been adding the 2 stroke oil at a ratio of 200:1 as mentioned in the 2SO thread. Cool
Haven't really noticed any change Embarassed
but I'm really doing it as a preventative measure against possible fuel pump failure etc.
Fingers crossed Whistle

I buy my 2SO at B&Q as its only about £4 something for a litre.
Where do others buy it from and how much?

Finally solved the wynns additive mystery. According to the main LR dealers in Exeter it's WYNN'S DIESEL SYSTEM CLEANER. It comes in a 325ml grey plastic bottle, part no. 46754. If you buy this from the dealer it will cost you £21.60 but go to e-bay and it's available at £6.95 p+p free.
So all you 2 s oil users can count the pennies your saving. 11 GS Bali Blue
