If you really can't find the HDC button you can always turn TR to Mud & Ruts which will turn HDC on by default. |

yes Friday Night, I had to reverse down a very steep unlit single track snow covered road to a gateway when a lesser vehicle had failed to make the climb and was blocking the road , I did it with the HDC on as I wanted out of the way safely , and as I only drive the car on average once a month I just wondered why it wasn't illuminated as I have never had to consider it before, I suppose it's just a LR thing 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Not on tarmac - the FL2 can handle any situation on tarmac even in winter in these mountains (so far) but: Last winter we had a day out skiing in Elm - fantastic powder snow conditions - grand. At the end of the day we got back to the car park to find the entrance blocked, as well as the road, by a multi-car accident (folks sliding into each other in the rush to go home - lots of hand waving and shouting in a mosaic of languages) so not wishing to hang around for 30mins or more until the mess was untangled I told her Ladyship to "head into the mountainst". Knowing the landscape in summer I knew that the terrain under the snow in the next meadow did not contain any nasty hazards (tree stumps, large boulders, ditches, fences etc) so I charted for her a route across it. As it is a very steep decent HDC and DSC were both engaged - the snow was above axle height. Into first and off she went. The FL2 slowly ploughed its way through the deep virgin powder snow conditions and K just steered. Approximately 1km later further down the mountain we were back on snow covered tarmac. As we joined the road we looked back and saw that others had tried to emulate our escape - all were having severe difficulties and some stuck, which I suppose can be put down to driver error and/or vehicle inability. Now back on tarmac covered by hard packed snow the HDC & DSC were disengaged and it was home James or rather K. One negative by-product of using TR or DSC or HDC - we find that the fuel consumption rises by approximately 25 to 30%. |
