Yours must have been the last of the ones without the Instant Fuel display, I think it started on the MY10 models, as far as I know it is not something you can add to the older models.

I can confirm that my 07 SE doesn't have instant mpg reading.

p.s. If the software was made by Microsoft, you would probably have to reset the ECU by opening all the windows, climb out of the rear door, climb back in through the passenger window, select reverse gear, then 1st gear, then press the start button 5 times.  Cheers,
