New Tyres

I need to fit some new tyres to the truck. I'm not that impressed with the Continentals fitted from new but that may be a tracking problem rather than poor tyres. Neverthless I need a change and don't want to break the bank so am considering Hankook tyres offered by the local depot for £112 (for 235.65.R17) It seems like a decent price but have never used this make before. Has anyone any advice to offer.

Carlo

Depends on what conditions you drive, but I have general grabbers AT's on my motor, very good tyre and you should be able to get them for less than £100 a tyre

I fitted K105? Hankooks to my Passat. Seemed pretty good. Grip in wet & dry pretty good; noise average; wear seemed ok. Do not know about Hankook tread types for SUV tyres though. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Hanooks overall seem to give very good value for money. First time I had to change the tyres on my wife's car we replaced like for like, when her 2nd set was due another 9000 miles later we replaced them this time with hanooks front and rear.
The car is so much quieter and drives really well, it hadn't lost any of its quality in respect of handling.
They also appear to be lasting longer than the continentals at twice the price !
Hanooks get my vote Thumbs Up

Hankook very popular for competition tyres especially rally forrest. Factory one of the most modern in world amongst major tyre manufacturers.
They will certainly be on my possibles when needing tyres.

My GS models all came with Goodyear, I bought a set of SE wheels (ebay) with almost new Continentals and have used both on same FL, the Goodyears outperform the Contis in all ways. 235/65x17 all on new vehicles. All FL2's (3) Gone

FL2 GS Auto SD with heated leather, factory tints, alloy spare and a few other bits.

I know this is off topic, but what is wrong with the term SUV Question
As far as I can see it is an abreiviation for what our Freely is Thumbs Up
Its the term motor manufacturers use.
Its the term tyre manufacturers use.
Its a modern name for a modern verhicle.
It suits all Land Rovers except the Defender which is a real 4x4.

Agree LR's er NOT J**ps or Trucks and there are many 4x4's and quite a few NON SUV's as well.

Would seem to me its only those that would like to be something they are not that bother to give a distinctive discription to thier vehicle to try and put them selfs aside from the flock - "I drive a 4x4" instead of "I drive a SUV" makes them sound like a farmer and not a urban shopkeeper Laughing 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Thanks for the response guys - generally very useful too.

Incidentally, the "truck" refers to the relative size of the mark 2 to my old mark 1. Longer, wider, taller, heavier but still has no more room?? Still, it does perform nicely.

I'll be very interested to see what you think of the Hankooks. I've researched brands available here and had pretty much decided on the Hankook Dynapro HP. They seem to get great reviews re noise and wear characteristics and good feedback on grip. I will get about 50,000 K from the OEM Wranglers which isnt too bad seeing that I do quite a bit of reasonably heavy towing, but I look forward to better mileage from the Hankooks. A$230 per wheel fitted and balanced is a saving of about A$60ea over Wranglers and more than A$100ea on Conti's or Michelin. Give us a report if and when you get them.

Just don't like Americanisms creeping into the English Language, my wife is not a "soccer mum" i'm from Yorkshire she is "our lass" Laughing

in my humble opinion the Freelander is not " Sports " it has all the performance of a slug in lead boots and corners like a van, a Porsche is Sports a Lotus is Sports .It is not " Utility"- my Defender was Utility, you could quite happily chuck anything in the back from a concretre mixer to 3 or 4 Pygmy Goats ( don't ask Embarassed ), stick a snow plough on the front, use the front bumper to push start stuff, hose the back out ( try that with your HSEs Exclamation ) that is "Utility" to me. The Freelander is however a vehicle, quite a nice one admittedly, probably the best definition of it would be 4 wheel drive estate car in the real sense of those words

In my humble opinion, you need to try the SD4, it surprises many a car, although admittedly its cornering ability leaves a lot to the imagination.

Anyway back to Tyres, I had Kumho Tyres fitted last year, £95 each fitted and up to now there as good as the Goodyears.
Been on the RRS forum and Hankooks and Kumho get rated well by their owners.
