Fantastic day today at Coniston Cold. Great weather, crisp, clear , and the first hour spent cruising around the Dales between Settle and Malham, The roads were empty, the views were awsome, affirming the long time rumours that Yorkshire is indeed "Gods Own County" . The Instructor, Trevor, was brilliant friendly and informative and we left knowing a lot more than when we arrived. When we returned to the estate and spent the next hour and a half in the woods testing the off road ability of the Freelander I realised two things

1) the Freelander is no " soft-roader" it delivers straight from the showroom on OE tyres,
2) we made the right choice when we spent our ( used car) budget getting an autobox v a higher spec manual it's a doddle and probably foolproof

The final off road section driven by the instuctor was more than we could have expected and I was particularly impressed when he had the car balanced with the front offside and rear near side wheels off the floor and invited us to open the the doors and have a look . we finished the day off with a soup and sandwich lunch in the shooting lodge ( go in there to eat even if you don't shoot It's cheap friendly and has a lovely big log fire with leather sofas to relax on). Then we went out and had 200 clays betwen the 3 of us and I was pleased to see despite a 6 month lay off I could still "smoke" a few with my trusty Krieghoff all told a perfect day. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership
