Having done the LRE at Dunkeld I'd love to do something like this in my own car.

Not necessarily, we spent the day in the company of Discoverys, Defenders and a Jeep driving around lanes, Woodbury Common etc. with the Honiton LRE Centre on their New Year Run. Had access to areas that weren't open to the general public. Forded the Otter at Newton Poppleford and lost my front numberplate to the bow wave. Still got a clutch that doesn't slip. (He says frantically touching wood!!) |

PCHeaven, your 'sticks' must have been pretty extreme to match what we did at Bala. The video is good but does not quite show the full range of what we did. Some pretty scary downhills on rocky surfaces and steep uphills on mud. OK nothing compared to what modded defenders can do but great fun. Certainly just as challenging as the LRE sites at Milton Keynes and Dunkeld that I have done. Hence the gentle dig at The Doctor and his green lanes.......Still need to wash the car..... JT Upgraded to an ex demo, 7 mth old, Rimini Red/Ebony Napoli Auto HSE on 28th Jan 2011, added roof rails, mudflaps and side strips.

Not at Bala. It's a bit far from Bristol. After doing an experience morning at Honiton we were sent a brochure offering the chance to drive our own car on LRE off road days. Instead of recovering from a new years eve party we met up at Budleigh Salterton and drove around SE Devon hardly touching metaled roads. The only problem we experienced was due to the low ground clearance of the fuel tank, the reg plate came off in the ford. The clutch did get a bit hot but survived. Learnt to use low rev's unless limited for grip, then you need to get the clutch let out and then bring the rev's up to get the traction control to kick in. |
