Steamy Windows!!

I've noticed my car has started to steam up really badly over the past few weeks. Never experienced this before, bearing in mind I don't turn the A/C off, ever. Anyone else expereinced this?? I hope it's not the A/C packing up Crying or Very sad Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

Have you had it recharged, yours is 4 years old there or there abouts, you may have lost a bit of the fluid. It has been said that they loose possibley 10% each year and should be recharged after two years.

Mine does it when someone gets in who's been in the rain and sometimes when starting up after I've had the air-con on.
The windscreen would 'on occasion' mist over rapidly, but I've found that the switch that diverts the air from fresh to re-circulate is by default in the auto position, where the car sometimes decides to re-circulate the air when you don't want it to, causing the rapid misting, whereas simply pressing it until the light goes out 'two presses', puts the system into permanent fresh air, where it tends to do it far less! Off course pressing the 'auto' button on the air-con will override your setting and you'll have to manually set it to fresh air again, but it's better to have it set to fresh air than to have the screen rapidly mist over. Thumbs Up

My drivers side footwell is damp. Do you know where the AC drain is?? Would this come into the footwell?? Thumbs Up Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

Yeah mine will be 5 years old in March. A/C probably does need a service. I just hate paying for extras like that, until I have to. Perhaps that time has come Whistle Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

I would agree on what's said, if you have no damp carpets etc then your 'Aircon' is probably inefficient and short on gas.
You are doing well, every car I have owned the 'Aircon' has failed completely before 4 years have come around, probably because I never used it in the winter months which I now do.

You suppose to run it up for a minute or so every week at least so the seals dont dry out, stops it losing refridgerant/system pressure.

There is a simple solution to this and it does not involve the A/C. In alot of cases, a car that steams up alot is down to a filthy pollen filter.

If the pollen filter is dirty, it stays damp and therefore blows damp air into the car causing it to steam up. This is the first thing I would change before you start messing with the A/C. Don't forget, ALL air that comes into the cabin goes through the pollen filter.

I change mine every 18 months or so, my car is 5 years old next year and it doesnt steam up, the A/C is nice and cold and it has never had a re-charge. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........
