It looks nasty. I have seen 3 fairly bad incidents on the way home tonight but this is just massive.

I was a innocent victim of a RTA in 1976 and almost lost my legs. Hence the nickname 'pegleg'. Spent over a year in a wheelchair before i learnt to walk again.

So my heart goes out to those involved, many will suffer for the rest of their lives.
I've watched the news tonight and burst out with uncontrollable tears.

Puts things into perpective doesn't it?

Will this be a lesson to the idiots who follow to close....no!

Another point- motorway driving is the most dangerous place to drive, yet within minutes of a person passing there driving test they can drive on the motorway with no training or instruction.
But it would seem a reverse round corners is far more important

went to see the mother in law yesterday, 40mls each way on M8/M74.

no wonder there are accidents on the motorway, the amount of idiots I came across yesterday was unbelievable.

we need more motorway police and heavy penalties for blatant dangerous driving.

Trouble is that when you read of a serious accident you are then more aware of how some people drive !

Like pegleg I was the innocent party in a motorway pile up 7 years and hit by a car doing 90 when I was stationary ! I still suffer now, long after my injuries ( laid up for 18 months ) have so called healed !everyday when I go to do something I get a stark reminder ! ( Oh and anyone who says whiplash is bollards is welcome to my neck and back !)

2nd rule needs enforcing and the brainless numptys driving like idiots needs there licence taking away for very long periods ! It should be an honour to have a licence not a right !

it is indeed usually the innocent victims of these idiots that suffer the consequences.

because they are safe in their tin boxes they can act like morons and get off with it, as they know there are no traffic lights, etc to stop them.

a relative of mine has failed her driving test twice in a short period of time and is now waiting for the 3rd date to come through.

Just the other year when i was old enough to drive , friends were taking their test after half a dozen lessons, myself had a fair few more, we were both deemed as competent drivers (myself after a second attempt) and both issued with licences. Where as my instructor taught me for more hours and his saw that he could change gear and reverse round corners and park up.

I have never had a fault accident, just none faults that have been caused by a driver going in to the rear of me whilst reading a map and the other 2 i was not in the car when it happened. My friend had one shortly after passing his test.

I would say minimum hours driving before test and a rolling scales of hours in between re-tests, fail once minimum 4 hours of lessons, fail again 6 extra hours, fail again an extra 8 hours.

I have read too often about people failing 20 lessons, some people are just not fit to drive and there should be a cut off point on lessons to re-tests Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

If you learn to fly, you have put in xx many hours to prove you have the experience... I think the same should be with driving.

IMO you find that you could pass a lot of tests (be it driving, an academic test, whatever) by doing a bootcamp type approach just by being taught to pass under the test criteria but not actually having any experience. Absolutely awful accident, and it seems a firework display might be the cause which makes it a complete freak accident.

I can't really talk, I've only been driving a year and a half (at the tender age of 32) but in my first year I owned a A6 2.8l and did over 20k up and down the M4. I can safely say I saw a lot of idiots on the motorway, the worst kind being the 'junction hoppers' going one junction in the early mornings. Utterly ridiculous BMW corporates steaming down the outside lane.

Thankfully I've never had an accident, scrape or claim.
My only advice would be always look ahead and predict the next move of the vehicles in front - all too often you can see lorries pulling out on startled drivers in a situation that was fairly obvious.

As much as I liked the power of the Audi I much prefer the safer driving position of my FL2, hopefully giving me even more time to figure out what everyone else is up to. 2008 FL2 TD4 XS Zermatt Silver, Manual
