Since having my winter tyres fitted I have been wondering...

If I were to go down a mild 'off road' woodland track (2WD cars can get down so far when it is dry) in moderate to heavy-ish snow, would the apparently supreme abilities of the winter tyre be good enough to cope without getting stuck? (I speak generally as conditions can of course alter from one day to the next)

The slope could prove tricky but I am torn between trying it or being sensible (i.e don't be stupid, it is asking for trouble, what a fool you would look if you got stuck etc etc)

I have many years ago in the defender, ended up driving along a byway covered in snow. Then falling through a big water splash with pieces of ice 3-4 inches thick Like bricks which dented every side pannel on the car! So be sensible

being the first down a snowed tracked is difficult as everything is white especially if its sunny you cant distinguish anything, so unless you know the road intimately it will not be fun at all, you wont know whats a snow drift , rock,old gate or drunken pinky crashed out in the snow.

Wait for some snow and then book yourself a 1/2 day or full day at your nearest Land Rover Experience Centre and let the instructor show you/tell you how to get the best out of your Freelander 2 in the snow. If you don't want to wait for the snow then you could try booking once the ground gets wet as it will still give you a reasonable understanding of how your Freelander 2 will handle in slippery conditions.
At the moment the ground is still too dry to be of much help.

i did an LRE day in the worst of the snow last dec and the tracks were rutted and then 4inch at least of fresh snow ontop of compact snow, i'll try and put up the very,very short foorage i got of my wife driving...

if those photos are the worst of the track, then up to 6inch you shouldn't have any problems
