Although I do not require snow socks, my dad is considering getting some for his A4.

It is a safe bet that they are no match for winter tyres whatsoever and they cannot be used at higher speeds. They also have to be removed if driving on main roads where snow has cleared as tarmac will destroy them before too long.

Apart from the above negatives, has anyone seen them in action to comment on them?

I read about a guy with a BMW 318 who claimed he got about with ease on normal tyres with these fitted

British gas issue them on there vans for engineers, saw a van last gear with them on. Spinning his wheels!

Have you considered snow belts?

Do a search on 'jeko'. And there is a youtube video which looks impressive.

A couple of us have bought the 'snow belts' including me.

They are easy to fit, but I haven't needed to used them yet.

My brother uses them on his A6 and they are pretty impressive - seen them in action in very steep road in Alps.

of the best things I've ever purchased.

Even though both our vehicles are 4 wheel drive, a FL2 & an Audi I find them excellent
and very quick and easy to fit.

For around £100 everyone should have them.

Easy to fit, without lifting up the wheels.

Bought a set for my A4 after the snow 2 years ago meant it took me 7 hrs to get home, 3 of them trying to get up a motorway slip road. Man with salt eventually helped me! Didn't use them last year as always took the Landy to work so no need. Friend of mine works for a gas company and they were supplied with them last year and he said they were good. Be aware though, they are only meant to get you out of trouble. They are not a driving around permanently solution.

Sold my freelander but have a set of 16in composite snow chains for sale, unopened-never used £90 inc p&p.
