Privacy Glass

Having placed my order for a FL2 a few weeks ago, I’m thinking of re-visiting the order and adding privacy glass.
I’m aware that aftermarket products are available (usually in the form of a film that is applied?) but was wondering about the durability of this, should it get scratched etc…
I’m assuming that the privacy glass offered by landrover, is not film based?

Any info appreciated… (for both options!)
Thanks
Stevea

The biggest giveaway that a car does not have factory fitted privacy glass is that the elements of the diversity antennae in the rear quarter glasses are all but invisible with factory fitted, with aftermarket film they put the film over the elements and no amount of smoothing can get rid of the "exaggerated" lines where the antenna elements are because the film physically cannot expel the air trapped along the antenna length. Go for the factory fitted glass as it is tinted glass and not a film How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

I have had privacy glass for some years on 2 Land Rovers and a Jaguar.

The first was a DIY film on a Discovery GS that looked great at first but then scratched and peeled at top after a year.

The second was a Discovery Metropolis with factory fit that looked excellent but should have been darker.

Last was a Jaguar film that did not scratch but if you looked close you could see the bubbles around the element mentioned above.

Factory fitted is best. I wanted it on my FL2 GS but could not wait for factory order (December!) and now being quoted more for film! If you can wait get factory glass. Thumbs Up

I would go for factory windows aswell. (even though i have the film)

If the glass itself is tinted and some toerag smashes the glass, as long as your insurance company knows you have the added privacy tinted windows (it's a modification above standard spec, just like a towbar Rolling Eyes ), you should get the tinted window replaced as was.

If you have the film tint, some insurance companies, (even when notified and paid extra premium for the tint) will not pay for the replacement tint to be applied as they are only covering the window itself.

Something for you to ponder on Whistle
