England 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Orkney Grey
Freelander 2, 2.2 TD4 Starting Issue

Evening all,

Over the last couple of months, I’ve noticed that sometimes the car engine cuts out after starting. This can be when the engine is hot or cold. This has only happened a handful of times out of literally hundreds of starts and to be honest it could be that I am releasing the clutch pedal to soon (Always starts the second time).

I notice there are a few posts similar but not found anything that matches this exactly. My main concern that if this is not due to me releasing the clutch pedal to soon, could this be a fault with the car which may result in a total non-start situation later? Other than that the car runs and drives with no problems at all.

I seem to remember in my Freelander 1 TD4 days, a similar (common) fault was reported to be down to a sensor, but cannot remember which one (Cam Position or Crank Position Sensor???). If I’m correct, one of these is only used at startup and it was this that caused the fault on the FL1 (common fault apparently).

Anyone had a similar experience and does anyone have a drawing showing the position of the various sensors on the Freelander 2, 2.2 TD4?

Thanks in anticipation.

Sorry not come across anything like that.
Try holding the clutch pedal down for longer to see if the problem goes away. If it does then that's probably the answer.
If it persists then it might be worth finding a LR Specialist and asking them to have a look or if you're feeling flush then take it to a Dealer and ask them to have a look.
