I have been a D3 owner previuosly but had to sell a few years ago (divorce!). I am now looking to get back into LRs and think the FL2 may be the most economical way!

I have found a FL2 2.2 TD4 HSE Auto for £20,900 at a LR dealer. Its 2007 with 31,000 miles and looks stunning - virtually perfect cosmetically, and they will put a fixed tow bar with twin electrics on it, and it will haave 4 new tyres.

Obviously it will have the Apporved warranty / service etc...

Does this sound about right - price-wise?

Are there any faults I should particulaerly look out for - common ones?

I really enojyed my D3 (and D2 and D1 300 and D1 200 and Classic RR etc...) and a couple of years in a Vectra hasn't really ticked the boxes for me! SAved me shed loads of cash and is very economical, but its a ....Vectra!
I am a bit concerned about the fuel costs, hence a FL2 and not a FFRR which I was very keen on. The FL2 does seem to offer almost the same cabin as the D3, so I really like it!

Didn't they upgrade the engine after that year ,best check this first before buying

I might have just saved you £3,000 and got you a two year younger car and someone's even gone to the trouble of facelifting the front end for you!

Apart from the usual car buying checks-

check seat cushion sides for tears
check boot release button for internal water damage
check wheel arch trims. if buying from a dealer get him to replace them if not already done
seems the major expense area is the rear diff/haldex not a common occurrence but a few have failed expensively
mirrors sometimes judder when openning /closing
airvent adjustment buttons can snap off- the central silver thing I think

just sold mine at 36,000 miles with no problems in 3.5 yrs - apart from the winter 08 heater recall, of buying an 08 or older do check this recall has been done otherwise your car may torch itself - grey ones used to commit suicide - who can blame them.

check colour if its not black, walk (run) away

As you are fitting a towbar yourself then your ok - never buy a car with a prefitted towbar it WILL be knackered

What you say about the FL2 having a cabin with about as much space as the D3 is interesting. Truth be told, I'd like a D3/4, but each time I look in the cabin, although I really like it, there isn't any more space and the back seat space is compromised by the need to add the 3rd row. The bigger glass area in the front of the FL2 actually makes it seem more spacious that the D3/4.

After years of driving a much longer car, I also like how easy the FL2 is to park. The weight is important too; our favourite holiday destination is accessed by a bridge with a 2 tonne weight limit! A laden FL2 is slightly over that, while loading up the D3 would take it very close to 3 tonnes

So, each time I look at a Disco, I keep coming back to the FL2 and thinking what a blooming good car it is.

Check the colour if its not Stornoway or even better Lago, walk (run) away.

And it is important that it has the correct wheels, some owners have been known to put some very Iffy ones on and totally ruin it

Check it has spare wheel and jack (the older ones ought to).

that looks dear to me at just over 20k if you have the reg put in we buy any car and this should give you what you would get for it on selling you may be supprised or buy LRO mag it has a new&used buyer guide may help you if you can get the reg and see if it has had any repetative warranty work and does it have a full l/r service historyi know of sombody that has a2011my xs reg in late 2010 and was offerd 21k by we buy any car

ps some also have a problem with sunroofs shattering for no reason or brakets breaking try an xs model no roof in this one  rainy-city
