Tolerance on a speedo during manufacture is 0 to +10% so all are inaccurate, wheras the Garmin will be fairly accurate, providing it can see enough statelites with a wide enough angle of dangle.

Might it also be a fault with the temp sender, wiring, or with the cluster, and that the engine is reaching normal temperature quite normally?

Something not shutting down when locked. Do you leave anything in the constantly powered 12v socket?

Maybe its possible to try removing fuses overnight from different systems to see if that helps ...
