the far left of the arm in the pic above is a hinged cover that simply lifts up to reveal a 13mm nut undo this and give the arm a good wiggle to make it come off, simple as that

Blue smoke on start up normally means the turbo seals are on their way out, but wouldn't explain the low mpg so I wouldn't worry about it.
