Reversing Camera

Hi folks,

Something which is always in the news here in Oz is accidents involving people revesing over children. As the parent of a 16 month old boy I am absolutely petrified of the situation and am putting it out there to see if anyone has managedto oe up with a decent solution.

The VMS 4x4 GPS system (LR500) specifcally made for the FL2 looks and feels like the genuine screen and includes a reversing camera. It fits inthe standard aperture and all up, including fitting is nearly $3500. Ouch.

The other option I have isto fit a cutom screen (a 7" pioneer monitor) into the aperture which includes the Pioneer GPS system with the reversing camera is around $2000, subject to other options like Bluetooth for the phone etc. The bare bones version is around $1000.

Has anyone else installed a reversing camera, and if so how did you do it, and what does it look like?!

Thanks in advance!

Hi Liberty 555
I think on a car like ours there should of been a reversing camera as standard. Like you said $3500 is a bit on the steep side, even the other system you have mentioned is still a bit rich. having a rear camera would be usefull its still not any good if your trying to reverse a 25 foot boat trailer etc.
I shopped arround and found a small wide angled 2.4 GHZ wireless colour camera with a hand held small colour moitor which i cut out a velcro pad and stuck it on the bottom of the camera.
Now if im reversing my small trailer i pop the camera in the rear window and place the monitor where the satnav is and it works a treat.
The best thing though is when in reversing the boat down the slip for launching i pop the camera on the back of the boat. Magic, now i can see directly behind the boat and i know im not gonna run in to any one or any thing.
Afterwards i just put it away in the case, job done.
The camera kit is rechargeable and it only cost me £ 150 Thumbs Up

Anybody else find a solution to the freelander 2. That didn't come with:

Hi. Hinj, Just type kgbcameras into google search engine. Klick on wireless kits and scroll down through all the diferent cameras and wireless monitors.
There are lots to choose from. buy a set or mix and match what ever you want as long as you stick to the same freqency.
You could also fit a fixed revering camera, all depends on what your looking for. hope this helps Thumbs Up

Go for a Kenwood CMOS200 or 300. Better than anything LR can offer.

Very interesting web-site that, and I was surprised at what you can actually get for your money. Seems some good VFM still exists. Thumbs Up We Don't Care About Pot Holes !!
