Greece 2008 Freelander 2 i6 HSE Auto Sumatra Black

I have done the same modification as Carnoch with Kenwood screen and Kenwood gps. Then I replaced the kenwood gps with an other gps box that enables the touch screen function with the Kenwwod screen. The new gps box has a video input, so I put a digital TV tuner. Moreover has a video player, so I can play any videos and movies from a flash disk through a USB port. All can be operated from the touch screen, only you have to switch the TV chanels with a remote control. I have conected the audio out from the digital tv tuner to aux in, so I can listen the TV from the speakers.
As a gps program I use the I-go 8, which is by far better than the original LR one.

The Garmin nuvi 1490T, 5" screen, is an almost perfect fit in the OE space in the dashboard, about 5mm short on the width, but perfect for height. Available for around $350 and Garmin in Australia are offering free life time maps if purchased before January 31, 2011.

Australia 2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e S Manual Baltic Blue
AUS - Garmin 1490T - Good to know

Thanks for the advice on the Garmin unit.

I am in the process of looking to get a GPS for my TD4e and spent a fruitless day in the local JBHiFi with a measuring tape trying to workout which ones would fit in the hole with least gap. Sales staff looked at me like I was mad !

Off today to pickup a 1490T from Officeworks while Garmin are still doing the free map upgrades.

Bill.

Australia 2007 Freelander 2 i6 SE Auto Tambora Flame

With this setup, does the navigation sound come out of the stereo?

I collect my second hand 2007 model tomorrow night (super excited) and I have been researching after-market sat-nav and bluetooth for a while.

I am happy to just get a double din pioneer unit and replace the stereo but this kenwood gig looks great and makes use of the hole up top.

If there was something similar that I could get in AU, which would make use of the hole, have audio that came out of the main speaker, allowed me to use the volume control on the steering wheel and would also do bluetooth handsfree to my phone, I would be sold.

Ideas?

Cheers,
Whytey

The best choice is Kenwwod touch screen and a gps that can work with the screen. Kenwood or other if available. In my opinion do not replace the stereo.

I used Kenwood LZ 702W touch screen monitor and a gps box that allows the touch function of the screen. The gps box has a video input as well as a media player from an usb port. With an usb stick you can play almost anything. The box is available in Greece as navibox.

Then I attached a digital TV tuner in the video in. The audio out from the tuner I put it in the aux in of the radio unit. The digital TV tuner is VCAN DVB-2009HD.

The navibox has its own speaker of the navigation which I put in the upper central dash area, so you can get the nav directions without interfering with the radio.

You can find in the web a similar gps box (in English) called CS 9100 Navigation box. You need the gps box and the appropriate cable for the Kenwood screen.

Very informative Kostaschrys. I think I'll have to print this description out, it's very comprehensive. It sounds like you have the ducks nuts (Aussie for best-in-field!) of dashboard systems, with the independence of the navigation unit and multiple use of the video screen. I may need to ask for more details further down the track. Thanks.
