Whats the rev range of yours. I find if accelarating hard at about 4000 RPM, it runs out of power.

Max torque is at about 2400/2500rpm so why rev further |

I think the rev limiter is set at around 4500rpm. Under normal driving conditions, I rarely exceed around 2200rpm. |

I am hopeless at driving petrols as after years of diesels I always change up to early, forgetting that you need to thrash them to get the power.

That's the biggest problem that I have faced since purchasing my FL2. I find that I have to shift up to 2nd almost as soon as I move - most strange compared to what I have become accustomed to over the past 40 odd years driving petrol cars. Don't get me wrong, just love the car but will probably go for an auto next time. I can hear the howls of derision but if I wanted to do hairy chested off roading then I would buy an old disco or defender not spoil my lovely shiny £20 grand plus toy. Tenet ps - good site and love the banter so come back Carnoch - just remember that sticks and stones will break your bones but names will never hurt you. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold. MY 15 SD4 SE Auto Orkney Grey with colour coded Bumper Door Mouldings |

The Freelander 2 Td4 (current motor) is somewhat different in respect of reving compared to the RX8 I used to have - it would happily rev to 9000rpm. (oh the joys and the noise of a petrol, rotary engine)

How do you know that? My auto shows D unless I'm in command shift AND have changed gear up or down at which point it shows the gear it has gone into. Is it different in the 2010MY? |

I tried that today NP as you said it did that, (I think it was yesterday) - well mine definitely set off in 1st - could it be how you've been driving it prior to stopping i.e if you've been pushing it a bit will the 'intelligent gearbox' think ''eh up... he wants a racing start again''
