Battery Voltage

Still trying to decide what is causing my battery to drain by checking the voltages.

Can somebody please help and check what the charging voltage is when the engine is running. I have plugged a voltmeter into the Aux Lighter socket when I am driving and when the battery seems charged the voltage reads 14.30 to 14.8 volts.

If i turn the lights and heater off and on the voltage can rise to 15.2 volts before settling down to 14.5 volts again.

I would appreciate anybody technical with a voltmeter to check and see what they get when driving.

thanks Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto with Winter Pack, Stornaway Grey, Ebony, Grey Mirror Caps. Removable towbar with 13 pin Electrics

14.5 is the correct charging voltage Don't put petrol in a diesel. They don't run well.

Thanks Boxer, do you know if any damage to the electrics will occur if the voltage rises to 15.2 volts. Also could this be a sign that the battery is faulty? Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto with Winter Pack, Stornaway Grey, Ebony, Grey Mirror Caps. Removable towbar with 13 pin Electrics

Don/t know the answer, but would have thought that as a spike it would be fine. If it is maintained for a long period then overheating of some of the circuits may occur. Best check that one out with your local LR dealer. Don't put petrol in a diesel. They don't run well.

Charge voltage for a lead-calcium battery as fitted to the FL2 can be up to 15.5VDC dependent upon external temperature and vehicle load, the voltages you mention are not an issue
