Algae / moss removal from window rubbers

Ive got green algae/moss growing on the lower window rubbers.
I had a go with neat washing up liquid and a toothbrush today - seems to to have removed most of it- but dont know for how long.

Anyone found a better method of removal? Jules

You have to find a safe way to kill the spores or it will come back per my search. Bleach will do it but your paint won't like it!!! Big Cry Razz

Google produced quite a few videos and threads on the topic, many from the UK.......this one looked interesting to me:

Someone used glycerine to finish the rubber and protect it.............sounds promising but I have never had this issue in Ontario, Canada.

Try mild bleach - Milton is pretty mild. To rejuvenate the rubber use Gummipflege https://www.detailedimage.com/Ask-a-Pro/pr...are-stick/ Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

@Past master Yes, Milton is a good idea - I'd forgotten I used that in the past for the black mould you get in SCUBA masks Jules

Does it "re-soften" the hardened trim? Steve

It is reputed to do so - check the reviews, which all seem to be positive. I think it is basically a silicone preparation. Its other main advantage seems to be to stop doors freezing shut in bad weather. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

So have I. I also have a small plant on the drivers side that looks like a small four leaf clover so I will leave it there as it may be lucky and it adds character anyway.

"Back in the day" as they say, it was a point of pride to have moss growing in the sliding window tracks of one's Series. Mine was also infested with spiders, which used to lower themselves from the headlining from time to time to the astonishment of my passengers. I don't think I ever had any plants growing on it though. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
