Clutch pedal sticking.

Evenin all!
Got a bit of an odd one here. As you know, the clutch pedal has to be pressed down to start the car. With this one, you press the clutch down, start up, release the pedal and.... it stays down now & again. Pull it up with your toe & its fine for a bit. Part way through the day occasionally it sticks about 3/4 the way up then is fine for a while.
Had a new clutch & release bearing in Feb this year. LUK parts used so should be ok. Also had a new clutch Master cylinder in April.
Am thinking maybe air in the system? perhaps a bad master cyl?
Any ideas?

Possibly the pedal itselF. I had a new clutch (slave cylinder , dmf etc fitted at start of this year and all was ok for a bit, but then pedal started sticking again near top of travel. New one sorted it, but new one is pretty creaky

We had a new clutch and slave cylinder fitted ...about 3 months later the pedal would occasionally remain depressed and had to be returned to by foot. I returned the vehicle to the garage the mechanic bled the hyd. system and it was ok for the drive home ...next morning the pedal again started sticking.

I returned to the garage again this time an o ring on the pipe to slave cylinder was replaced...since then the pedal would still sometimes remain depressed....I got into the habit of pumping the pedal a few times each morning and all seemed OK.

This weekend the pedal had lost all pressure so it was near impossible to engage gear I managed to get home just!
On inspection the hyd resovoir was very low, so I topped it up , and pumped the pedal topped up the res ,pumped and managed to engage the gears.

I can see fluid adjacent to the slave cylinder and suspect that the seal has failed....after only 3 months.

Is this a known weak point on Free 2's?

Hey Guys

I use to have the same problem on a Porshe 944, the problem was the O Rings inside the clutch slave cylinder

Since the O Rings was worn, when you press your clutch pedal, this push a piston inside the slave cylinder and the worn O Rings on the pistons was not sealing and this made that the fluid was not pushed and making the clutch pedal to not return back.

I went to a place where they sale every type of O Rings and we change them and everything work again perfectly.

The strange thing is you mention that you have a new Clutch Slave Cylinder. Maybe your mechanic need to disassemble the slave cylinder and replace does O rings.

Also what type of Fluid you are using? Maybe the fluid is damaging the O Rings degrading them..... Are you sure you are using the specified fluid? Maybe you need to use a silicone base Fluid or maybe a better O Ring Material.

Good luck

Isaac

That certainly sounds like the cause of the problem. I have the vehicle booked in for an investigation this week at the place which installed the new clutch etc.

I checked with a local motor factor spplier yesterday and according to spec list for our Freel2 it uses ESP DDot 4 fluid.

The garage I am using is an independent LR specialist, so hopefully this will be sorted.

Thank you for your advice, much appreciated.
Martyn
