Thanks for that. I had a Series 1 Discovery years ago. A great workhorse with 150,000 miles on her. I then got a TD6 Range Rover which I kept for 7 years. Great car but the gearbox went at about 100,000 (as was pretty common with that model). I just don't know much about Freelanders so just looking for some tips.

autocar says : ■ Transmission: Autos are generally okay but manuals can suffer problems with the dual-mass flywheel. Ensure the Haldex coupling has been treated to fresh oil and a filter every 20,000 miles. Well, the haldex wont have been so well cared for if JLR servicing has been followed. The High Pitched Whine is to do with the Throttle Valve resetting itself.
