Does the screen wash jet just pull out of the light with a bit of force? I've been disconnecting it at the hose join further back when I've been taking it off ?

Don’t know if they mention it on the video (didn’t watch it) but there is a “key Way” on the washer jet so it only goes back in at the correct angle, just make sure it’s aligned when “shoving it back in”  Regards

New one finally fitted. Seal is about twice as thick as original one ! The washer jet seemed to push in ok. Let’s hope that’s an end to it...at least while the car is in my possession.

new seal did not cure mine,,,,there was a gap between
front(clear) & back (black) of light,,water was going through
the light 2007 hse gone

A repair that works is to apply two parallel beads of silicone ( tiny bead with the existing nozzle of the silicone tube, without cutting it) to the existing gasket. Allow this to dry, then smear some vaseline to the silicone and rea-semble the light to the car. This will achieve a tight waterproof seal. It is important to keep the silicone beads as tiny as possible.

Just done mine, the leak was not bad and only when the wind and rain was coming from one direction - the seal was very wet along the top edge in one corner so it looks like that is where it was starting to break down.

The link that grumsel provided above was very informative in how to dismantle the unit.

I found that the rear wash jet pipe work had a joint so I was able to split the tube at this point with out having to remove it totally, this may be an adaption that a previous owner did but was vey useful to find.

I think I spent more time cleaning up off the old seal than all the rest of the job 40 minutes in total. MY13 HSE Lux Santorini Black Gone

Maybe the seal just gets thinner with time / degradation. On the washer jet topic - my old one just pulled out of the light unit with a slight bit of force and the new one just pushed in

Same here, washer jet just an interference fit, but has a small lug to orientate it correctly.

The seal,on my old lamp was squished thin as well, never leaked but the new lamp’s seal was much thicker and made it a hard push to clip the new lamp in place, I am sure the old seal was just squished from being in position for 12 years. Regards

Only had my freelander a month, 2011 SD4 HSE. Found the high level brake light was loose. Took it off and started to put seal on but decided to clean the grime from the bodywork first. Found that a previous owner had tried to force it off and had bent the metal that the light clips sit in. Bent the metal back and the light fits perfectly, like new and no leak.

I wish I had read this thread a couple of weeks ago and left well alone.

When washing the car the other weekend, I noticed the that there was a lot of moss on the top joint of my high stop lamp. So I dutifully cleared it all off and basked in the self satisfaction of it looking far better at the expense of my fingernails.

Yes, you guessed it. Following another bout of glorious British weather, it now leaks! Soggy carpet in the boot and a tell tale drip on the plastic window moulding directly under it.

Time to get a new gasket and some silicon grease, or alternatively fill it up with moss again which seemed to do the trick quite well before I got all picky about the appearance, dammit.
