Affordable all seasons - snow flake rated?

Hi all

New member here! I have recently acquired a FL2 (08 TD4SE auto), which is presently on some questionable ‘Rapid Ecosaver’ tyres all round. Based in North Yorks and frequently pass through the Dales. I will likely need decent winter performance. No space for two sets of wheels unfortunately, nor the inclination to swap.

I have used Michelin cross climates on another car previously which were excellent, but wondered if there are any cheaper alternatives which are still snow flake rated (rather than just M&S) but still have reasonable grip year round. If they had some off road performance that would be a bonus.

Many thanks
Rob

Rob, i’m on Quatracs. Always found them a good all-rounder for Highland roads, comparison tests seem to have them in a similar position to the cross-climates, but I believe you can normally get them a bit cheaper. They have the three peak/snowflake symbol. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Vredestein Quatrac 5 are about £20 a corner cheaper than the new Cross Climate + , but the new plus version CrossClimate outperforms it in most tests . Vredestein tyres sell on their general reputation and sell out pretty quickly as winter approaches. In October I got a price for Quattrqcs for the Scooby , when I went back 3 weeks later they were sold out at the distributor .

Look up a few of the ( generally German ) all season tyre tests on google . As prices vary from say £80 to £150 a corner , the performance can also vary considerably.

Ps . A good all round tyre that will do snow and mud , but isn’t rated is the Pirelli Scorpion ATR I’ve used those through 7 Pennine winters on our FL2 about £100 a corner I think . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Whatever tyres you eventually settle on, try Asda on line (Yes, ASDA) who are very competitive, and will appoint a nationwide fitter like Halfords or Formula 1.

Pirelli Scorpion Zero All Season

Has anyone tried these?
They seem to have an impressive Wear B, WET A and NOISE 69 test results.

Are they worth the extra?

That's too bad. They were reasonably priced and work quite well in the snow (and fairly quiet).

I had a set of Michelin Crossclimates fitted a few weeks ago as I got a good Black Friday deal, but when I was researching all season tyres with 3PMSF winter snowflake ratings, the cheapest options I could find for my 235 55 19s were the Vredestein Quatrac Pro (Vredestein are doing a £60 winter cashback promo for 4 tyres at the moment) and the Hankook Kinergy 4S. Best prices I could find worked out at about £110 per tyre.

Moe, I’ve been looking at these for my SD4 and just wondering what you think if you got them fitted? I’m between these and the Michelin Cross Climate +.
