England 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Santorini Black

Ive used standard bulbs, GE, Bosch, Phillips (basic ones), Halfords basic, Halfords brighter, GE brighter,..... and they have all blown at some point. My Evoque was far worse for blowing them than the FL2.

The LR tech initially tried to say the bulbs were blowing due to overheating due to poor quality or being too bright (no Censored Sherlock!) but when I pointed out that the same bulbs didn't blow so frequently in any other manufacturers cars he soon backtracked and confirmed that LR knew it was only LR/RR that were blowing them and would possibly put out a bulletin or maybe even recall to resolve them....if they could find a cause/solution

My nearside headlight unit is now full of small glass fragments from 3 bulbs, mostly melted into the plastic inside or small pieces rattling round in corners that wont shake out. My Evoque lights had larger pieces of glass rattling round but they couldn't be got out either.

Halfords have a special 2for1 on their own brand HB3 +90% bulbs at the moment. They come with a 2 year warranty.

According to the salesman I spoke to they're made for Halfords by Ring.

As I wanted a spare, I bought 2 for £26. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

I was only in Halfords last night, and they do not list the HB3 bulbs under Freelander at all, only the HID bulbs (H7?)
I couldn't see them on the shelves either, and when I asked was informed of them not selling them for LR anymore.

Of course it may just be that branch's own policy, but 2 other Halfords ive gone to in the past have noted the same issues with HB3 in LR/RR

It wouldn't surprise me that Ring make them, its not the quality of the bulbs so much as the compatibility with LR headlights as every brand ive tried has blown at some point

They even sent a receipt by email.

No-one asked what car it was for. I just saw the HB3 +90% ones on the shelf. Ferndown branch just west of Ringwood. All fitted in my FL2 now so we'll see. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

Best thing I ever did was to swap the standard Halogens to some second hand Xenons I bought from here. £200 plus £30 to update the CCF and the difference is night and day. The standard Freelander Halogens are woeful and I've got neither the time nor the paitience to mess around with bulbs. Definitely the most important upgrade you can do for a Freelander

I had a set, but they were too long for the headlight (they fitted but couldn't get the back-plate back on.

My 07 HSE had projector low beam headlights, & the head light bulbs were separate for low & high beam, although both were H7.

Whereas my 60 reg HSE has H11 projector low beam & H7 non projector high beam

Could I use these as a straight swap for the lamps on my 57 model which give out as musch like as a gloworm on heat.

Not sure re difference in H7, H7R and H7RC. Reading so much about projector lamps and non projector lamps, blinding other road users etc
Also not sure why they deem them not road legal as only rated at 55w

Having HID in a car not designed for them will fail the new MOT. They have always been illegal unless they or the car is self levelling. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

let us know how long they last Largered please, ive currently got LR supplied bulbs in which have lasted for about 3 months now, which is great.... except that I cant see much with them on !!! and they cost £36!!

Fitting Xenons to a car without auto levelling has always been an MOT fail as all cars fitted from factory with Xenon should have washers and auto levelling by law (SteveD may correct me on that fact).

Of course its possible to fit Xenon units to a FL2 and have them coded in the CCF, and as most FL2 have washers as standard that isn't a problem, but the auto levelling is.
