Count me in for low-range box, split tail-gate, commanding driving position and full-size spare wheel. I’m guessing, though, that none of these are likely to be offered. MPG & Emissions rules essentially dictate the squashed look and the reduced weight that is only achieved by getting rid of spare wheels and low-ratio gear box. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Does one really need a low ratio box with 9 speeds, that's one more gear than the original series LR and one less than than the original Disco 200, just needs a sort out on the ratios. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

That may work for an auto box, but on the manual, the ratio chosen for first gear is always going to be a compromise weighted in favour of normal, on-road driving conditions. Having a first gear that allows steep, low rev climbing would probably not be compatible with normal starting from rest on a flat surface. Fine if the driver became used to pulling away in second, but that would be a departure from normal for most drivers. The same is true in reverse, to enable a suitably low ratio, you would probably have to find space for an R1 and a R2, and I can’t think of any road vehicle since the Austin Champ that had that sort of capability! 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

I have to say I'm struggling to think of much, is this a sign that I really like my car?
Anything that's running through my head is available on higher spec models as standard or as options.
Audible "ding" for low temperature warning.
Improved fuel consumption.
Larger fuel tank for improved range, 400 odd miles is not enough IMHO Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Auto boxes is the future unless a way can be found to increase the number of gears in a manual, is it a mechanical problem that the maximum number of gears seems to be 6 or the problems of the drivers sorting out which gear they are in, or just that the driver would be continually shifting. Reverse is not a problem as second gear could be used as the primary gear for reverse, ( is there a need for a low reverse or just nice to have) There are sequential boxes with more than 6 gears therefore it does not seem to be a mechanical problem to fit them though they are mainly used for racing and generally very noisy. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I guess one solution to the manual gear box issue is to leave the normal range available through the gear stick and have an electronically selected low available on first and reverse - bit like the old overdrive switch on 70s Dolomite/MGB etc.

At present, the only time that the FL2 performs poorly for me is on steep hill starts and steep slow-speed reverse manoeuvres. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Door handles that go into bodywork when you lock car and pop out on opening, saw them on a Merc.('I think') the other day and thought that's cool or do I need to get out more?

really just struggling to find anything I'd want apart from the split tail. If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

Is there any indication that there's going to be a Freelander 3? I thought the Discovery Sport looked to be taking it's place in the model range.

However if there was to be a new Freelander, personally I'd rather it was low spec, low cost with fewer gadgets. At the moment I don't like any of the current LR models, so don't know what will replace either our FL2 or our Defender when the time comes. I quite liked the Skoda Yeti as a Freelander equivalent, but that's also discontinued now. ----------

Definitely a solid "NO" vote for "squashed roof" styling. I hate it with a purple passion.

Happy with pretty much everything, but a few tiny details could be improved - especially the poor storage, which isn't helped by being so biased towards bottles/cups.

A big hate of mine is Sat Navs fitted as original equipment and then costing an arm and a leg to update. These things move on very quickly, and a new Garmin with free lifetime maps costs less than an update and is an infinitely superior bit of kit.

I tend to agree with comments above about not liking the LR range much at the moment - the accent seems to be on expensive Chelsea Tractor/Footballers' Wives/Bling rather than anything that would actually need Terrain Response controls.
