FL2 Best Features (or perhaps wish list for FL3)

After reading the disappointingly vague article on the FL3 in the Autocar, I have thought that we should list what we like about the present FL2, and perhaps what we would like the FL3 to be.

I am a fan of the tall body giving me a fantastic 'command' view of the road, and a large square tailgate opening.
The height and width of the body allow 4 good seats and very good driving position. Talking of dimensions the 15 foot length is an ideal comprimise between boot space and the ability to park.
The (SD) engine/auto gearbox provides lots of torque and allows distances to be covered easily.
I may be old fashioned but I like to carry a full sized spare wheel.
I like the 'PROG' button which turns everything on and demists the windows (a favourite feature)

Wishlist
Adaptable suspension with longer travel, and softer low speed springing/damping.
Wider range of gears (9speed?)
Sat Nav which has an easy and cheap (free?) way of updating over internet, and live traffic.
I would also like the Sat Nav to be brought up, more into eye line.

On the whole I have been very pleased with both my FL2s, and above all I DON'T want to have a racing style driving position, or a roof that looks as if an elephant has sat on it. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

I'll go for that Thumbs Up

but, as you can see from my current vehicle, I would like to see the sparewheel placed on the back of the vehicle, like swing-away Defender. Also lets drop that back window, like FL1

Also I would like to see a 3dr variant.

........back with more thoughts later.......

Tailgate, half up and half down so you can sit on it instead of the bumper.
Built in dashcam so I don't have to go through that hard wiring again Laughing If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

I like everything about mine.

I couldn't live without wing mirrors dipping on reverse. I have to park on the street. Like to tuck it in close to the kerb. Such a simple thing makes life easy!

I find the Sat Nav easy and it's never let me down.

I use the voice activated controls all the time. Brilliant!

Yes! Split tailgate would be nice.

Best car I've ever owned!

I like everything about the FL2, the only thing now is the body style is starting to look a bit dated but its no bad thing. I like the square corners, when you see the corner of the wing you know the rest is right below it so makes parking a doddle.

but I do miss the versatility of my old FL1 3 door... I loved having the removable hard top, and with the temp shower cover to hand (which was actually very very good) I used to drive around for days in the summer with the roof off.

so a 3 door, removable hard top, FL3 with a slightly updated body style that still retains some of the LR box shape and with most if not all the features of my 2013 HSE. Very Happy

come on JLR... give us what we want please and not what you think we want.

I'd like it to be better in snow. Both the original Freelander and the FL2 have the underside at the front shaped so that it packs snow down underneath. The result is that if you overdo it this takes the weight off the front wheels and the car's stuck until you've dug out enough to let the wheels grip again. The FL2 is worse in this respect, but I don't know if that's due to the wider wheels (generally worse in any case) or the shape. ----------

Thumbs Up after only 3 months of ownership I have to agree with all of these, although I've yet to use the voice activated controls.
Dipping wing mirrors were a pita at first, they never seemed to line up until I discovered that they needed to be adjusted when in use - previous owner must have been shorter than me. Now they've been realigned, I think they're great, like you I need to park on the street at home and tight up against a wall at work.

personally I would like a thing that gives an audible 'ding'. On my previous car a Honda Civic, I had 2 'dings' set, one for 30 mph one for 70mph, I am forever finding I drive over 30mph with too much ease, within 3 months of changing to a Freelander I got my first speeding offence in 40 years driving, 37 in a 30 zone, got sent on the speed awareness course etc etc

I would also like a self rising tailgate, mine seems very very heavy to lift, is that normal or do I need new shocker struts?

Everything else I am happy with, unless of course they can invent a self servicing car. . . . Rolling with laughter

Reading this thread I feel like I'm missing out on all the toys the newer models have Big Cry Laughing
But I would love a low range, adjustable height, and a proper sunglasses holder!
Currently love the driving position, the visibility out of all the windows, nice big mirrors, oh and that boxy older land rover look!

I’d like a full length panoramic roof with an electric curtain, 360° cameras, self parking, a more aerodynamic, lighter and more modern style body, better fuel economy, available in 3 and 5 door variations with a lower roof but with more ground clearance, electrically operated remote control tailgate, a pop-up gear selector knob instead of that old fashioned gear lever, an electric handbrake, a DAB radio and TV, 825w 17 speaker sound system, a dual view infotainment screen and some kind of trick electronic suspension system that can be operated from inside the car. But then it’d be called an Evoque I suppose. Laughing Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Present: Audi A3 S Line.

I'd like what I had in the D3 & D4:- Low range box, Air suspension, Split tailgate.

Oh, and I wouldn't mind interior black headlining & pillar trim. FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.

Please no more votes for a low (squashed look) roof.

I want to keep the boxy ( Classic Land Rover ?) look and the resultant 'command' driving position.

Everything else is a bonus. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
