Beep when locking door after changing handle

I changed the drivers door handle this morning. No problems the door opened and closed , I set off to go shooting and on arriving at the venue when I tried to lock the car all I got was a single beep . All the doors open and shut but no locking ? Any ideas chaps ? I'm assuming it was handle changing related ? 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Nope ! The handle removal is all external 30 seconds with a plastic trim tool and about as long to put it back . All that stops 3 of your handles being nicked is the rear cap which locates on two plastic spring lugs !

Anyhow I solved it Thumbs Up the bonnet had sprung loose from the two locks. Whistle it was on the safety catch . I was driving it up the tracks to the clay shoot in quite a spirited manner Very Happy I think I need to adjust the bump stops when I get home. Luckily for me I didn't try to solve it on the spot by ripping the handle off again and stripping the door down . I had a cup of coffee mid shoot and asked Mr Google and a common thread appeared to be bonnet switches not engaged for one reason or another . I approached the car from the front and low and behold ...... 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Try doing a reset on your fob between single and multiple door locking.

I assume no looms were disconnected or donor parts with looms used.

CAUTION: Diagnosis by substitution from a donor vehicle is NOT acceptable. Substitution of control modules does not guarantee confirmation of a fault and may also cause additional faults in the vehicle being checked and/or the donor vehicle.  FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I'm home now , the bonnet had been getting a little difficult to close for a while now. I had a good look and there are two bump stops no adjustable and each side of them is a bigger stop, black rubber with a sort of spiral cut around it . I screwed these in until the spiral had only one " thread " showing and " Bingo" it closes a lot easier Very Happy

Just goes to show , I jumped to the conclusion it was the door handle change , and it was me seeing if I could get my wife's car up the rutted track faster than I can do it it the Outback Rolling with laughter 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

So what you really are saying is you have been driving around with the bonnet just on the safety catch then ? Rolling Eyes FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Definitely not driving round Bob it was locked when I left home , and locked as I was driving because I had guns and cartridges in the boot I would not have set off , when I stopped in Foulridge to buy some pork pies for lunch I locked the car no problem . I suspect that bouncing up the rutted lane that I took up to the shooting ground must have shook the bonnet open there were some big pot holes and I wasn't hanging about and had to go onto the verge a couple of times to give way. All I can assume is that the two u bolts were not fully engaged and a big bump disengaged them . As I said I've screwed the two big bumpstops in and the bonnet feels easier to close . Nothing surprises me about LR bonnets ... 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Ask me sometime about running through a road block with booze in car in a big Toyota Land Cruiser, out ran several police cars for quite a few miles in and and around one big city in the Middle East. Not sure what would have happened if they had caught me but it wont have been all fun and skittles. Happy days Thumbs Up

Mind you karma stepped in years later and that is another story and why today if you gave me 100K in cash to look after it would be handed back in full no matter how many years went by. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
