United Kingdom 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Izmir Blue

Just changed mine a couple of weeks ago, had been struggling on cold mornings and finally gave up after a long run the day before, but luckily I had a battery pack to start. My wife's Ka has just been replaced after 10 years service and I replaced my Citroen 2cv's battery last year after 15 years service. Remember there are never problems, just new challenges

New Zealand 2008 Freelander 2 i6 S Auto Alaska White

I know this is an older thread ... but so are the batteries (usually).

So mine has finally died. Battery was a Varta 6G9N-10655-RA LR YGD500190 date code stamped on negative post is 41 09 (assume Sept 2009) and yesterday, after a couple of jump starts over the last few days, it gave up the ghost. It's winter here but relatively mild compared to the UK, just low of 0 degrees C. Note the this is a 2008 Freelander petrol i6.

Curiously while the battery is LR branded and looks original the date code is a year later than vehicle build date.

So 7 years ... not too bad a run. 2008 Freelander 2 i6 Alaska White - current
2002 Freelander 1 V6 BRG - gone but I still have the nightmares
1999 Discovery II Coniston Green - almost gone

My battery just got changed last summer it was still working just wouldn't take a great deal to flatten it. Car is 2007 and it looked factory fitted.

Was working on an 2006 x3 last trip home and it still had the factory fitted battery. Just goes to show you keep them charged and they will stand the test of time.

My original battery let me down twice in the past week or so. This was despite giving it an overnight charge with my CTEK charger. Searched on line for a replacement. Original was an LR Excide 80a/hr with 700cca measuring 307x175x190h. Matching the reg no with one site gave me an 096 (278 long, too short - that's for an FL1)). Another gave me a 110 (175 high, too low). Ended up searching all sizes to find one to match. Turned out to be a 110T / 115. Exact size as original with 80a/hr & 720cca. Ordered off eBay @ 1600hr yesterday. Fitted by 1500hr today! Not bad for £65.95. PRO Heavy Duty from ABS batteries with 4 year warranty.

Hello all
Having struggled to start a couple of times this week, I've had a quick look and it looks like my 2007 FL2 still has the original exide battery with the Landrover sticker...I guess it may be time to dip into my pocket!!
Put it on trickle charge for a few hours today initially drew 4 amps but settled after a while.
Yuasa do a battery with a lifetime guarantee, has anyone tried them?
Halfords do them currently around £125 trade price.
Thanks Brgds

England 2009 Freelander 2 TD4_e XS Manual Ipanema Sand

Hi all.

When you suggest that it ‘struggles to start’ may I ask what you mean? I have a 2009 TD4.e at 103,000 miles on its original battery. My cold starts are getting worse - tick over is fine with plenty of guts behind it and it fires up on the second turn every time, but it is quickly dropping revs to about 500 or so and stutters to almost a stall (but never does). It takes a little right foot from me to get the revs to rise and then they’re stable thereafter. Might this issue be the battery or something else?

I’d appreciate your collective wisdom...

Mine just struggles initially on a cold morning to turn on the starter motor, once its started it's fine, no problems with the idling. Brgds

I changed my pickup battery at 6 years old. Possibly had £20 worth of life left in it but its cheaper than breaking down. Old one comes in handy in farm workshop for testing stuff. At work

The battery from my 2007 FL2 is still going strong. Mind you, I took it off over 3 years ago when I changed it as a preventative measure and it’s been a handy jump start battery in my garage. On the other hand, the battery on my 2012 Evoque gave up the ghost last week and needed replacing. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

My wife's old (1998) Disco 2 Td5, I had it for 10 years, sold with the same battery. She did school runs and shopping expeditions ...... lots of stop-start short journeys.

It should start first time every time regardless of how cold it is. If it starts and idles fine from warm I would be looking at replacing the heater plugs. They not only energize to help cold starts but they stay energized for a time after the engine is running to help with cold running and help reduce emmissions /smoke on a cold engine. Thumbs Up

Just replaced the Varta battery on my 2004 VW Transporter, 13 years old so done very well. It was still starting ok but I could hear relays clicking when cranking over so power was obviously dropping.

Decided to change the battery before the really cold weather, replaced with another Varta & no clicking relays now.
