Another auto gearbox question do i change ATF myself ?UPDATE

Ok as from a previous thread i need the ATF changing.
Question is do i do myself for price of fluid circa £100 and use the dump and fill method or do i let my trusted indy do at a price of £399 using his super dooper suction widget?
Im quite capable of performing the task at hand but will paying the extra be worth it?

Only you can decide, Graham. The suction method is likely to be better as it replaces all the ATF in one go, rather than dilution of the contents by drain & fill. Given you may have an issue with the auto box already will it be an extra £300 spent that could have gone towards a repair or replacement?

My thoughts exactly Bob .
Think at this point it may well be abit to risky when it may not cure it.
So will be doing this 1 myself.

Cherrs Bob.

If that "wer" you've told us in the previous thread appeared only after fitting the new turbo, it's, I believe, from turbo and not from autobox. Mine also does it and it's a normal sane turbo surging sound. So the new turbo works as it should.
Indeed, after changing the auto oil, the "wer" may seem it disappears, but it's only true because the gear changing points will "shift" a little on the RPMs scale because of the proprieties of the new oil, so the regime of the turbo.
So, I don't believe it's something wrong with the box, but in the same time, isn't a bad thing to change the auto oil periodically.
I, for one, do a partial auto oil change (3 liters) at each service (7K miles). In this way, by dilution, is equivalent with a full oil change at every 40K miles.
And the gearbox changes and behaves better than when was new and the oil that I take out is nearly the same as the oil going in.

Hi Alex the problem im having also is when it changes from 2nd to 3rd it for a split second seems to miss then take up drive. Doesnt do it at all if heavy with the accelerator only at low crawling speeds?
Had it on my diagnostic tool and showing nothing im using a icarsoft i930 prob not the best. Its in tomoro with my indy so will go on his diagnostic then. Back in black !!

Mine also does it occasionally, but I put it on box's fuzzy logic (AI) and don't worry about it.
In the end the box's ECU is taking into account a lot of parameters (input rpm, output rpm, auto oil temperature, auto oil wear, clutches and bands wear, engagement speeds, car speed, steering wheel position, street slope, engine output, engine oil temperature, etc.) and not always has a "perfect" answer.

Get your oil changed and turn up the stereo. All our cars make different noises each day depending on many factors but an oil change is going to rule out many of them. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

👍! Well done! I like your platforms, just enough height for free access underneath! How much ATF did you put through it?

Cheers Bob just nocked them up to get a little more height out of some spare bits of timber in shed. Lol
Ended up using 12 ltrs in the end not cheap but used oilman on here so got the discount on mobil.
Hasnt sorted my prob but now know its the actuator on the new turbo not working properly so waiting to go back in for another 1!!! Back in black !!
