Graham. They all do it! Yes, there is a "wer" or "sigh" from the auto box during gear change in the lower gears. Maybe you have not noticed it before. If the sound becomes prolonged (i.e. throughout the gear) as it did with mine, I found a ATF fluid change fixed it.

Yes, moves away in 2nd normally. You can select 1st manually of course, then return to Auto before you pull away. Mine is quiet in Command shift too. Also, I changed the ATF at about 76k. Did not eliminate all noises but cured the main problem and gave peace of mind. I brought it to the attention of my dealer (Duckworths) & they couldn't fault it.

Im leaning to atf change as it also seems to change up and down when it feels lile it. Not willy nilly but sometimes it feels it cant make up its mind which gear it wants. Back in black !! |

I don't think an ATF change can do it any harm, although it will set you back £100 for enough ATF for a chance to do any good. I have known other boxes to show significant improvement after a change of fluids. Certainly mine has improved. Have you had it checked by a specialist or reliable dealer? If not, it may be worth your while.

@Grahamv6 - could you update on this? I've think I've got the same issue so it would be good to hear more about yours/how you resolved. |
