Auto transmission drain plug

Hello all,
Just being doing a fluids change on my 2010 SD4. Had the haldex/rear diff done by Bell engineering and just done engine oil and filters and front transfer box. All fine. So just autobox left to do. Bit of pressure shifted filler plug from the engine bay but foiled by the drain plug inner level plug. Doesn't want to move, It's just going to get chewed if I muck around with it anymore. I've just ordered a new plug assembly (drain plug and level plug). But any ideas on shifting the old plug? I can't get to the hex key into the main plug without getting the level plug out first if you see what I mean.

Could you get some heat to it ? In the mean time loads of WD 40 or something like it so it gets a start.

Best check it's not an aluminium sump before you try heating it up. Hopefully someone who has already done a fluid change may be able to give you some tips

Yep, it is alloy, so while I'm waiting for the new one to arrive, I'll give it a good soaking in penetrating fluid. Maybe just a tickle with the blow torch. But I'm open to offers!

Also worth noting that ATF is flammable and will catch fire on a heat source so take care if you do resort to the blow torch

Neither did I until I split some on a hot exhaust some years ago, you should be OK if there is no fluid in the area

There's no fluid author plug, all dry around it. In so tight no chance of leaks! I think it will be heat as a last resort.

have you tried tightening the plug? sometimes doing that loosens it so will then undo. Common sense isn't very common.

Are you using a hex socket to undo it, if so, tap the hex into the screw and then support the ratchet head beneath the ratchet by pushing up with one hand whilst pulling the ratchet handle with the other. The secret is to keep the hex socket as straight as possible

yes, using a socket, cleaned out the plug, tapped the hex in, tried bit of pressure but you know that feeling when it just wants to strip round?

Not got the Auto but I thought modern way is to suck out the fluid ? FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Actually, I didn't think of that as I hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere. I did suck out the front transfer box and that worked well. I might be nervous poking some dirt into the autobox though.
