If its fallen into the main body of the HVAC unit then it will be on the air off side of the evaporator.

In between the the vertical evaporator and horizontal heater core live a big steel cross car beam (structural support to link the A pillars). Because this beam passes through the middle of the HVAC it has a big removable section. The ring is potentially behind this.

I remembering this from a old training session so I might be well off the mark, but I think if you remove all of the centre stack (radio etc) you might be able to unclip the removable section?

Again, if the ring has dropped down far enough you'll probably have more luck with a camera down the centre vent.

Good luck!

Update: I've had a play with the snake camera in various vents and so far can see f@ck all. A friend has suggested that the ring may have made its way to the heater core?? Is this fairly easy to access and have a butchers in to see if the ring is there??

Did it actually go into the vent. Could it be on the floor of the car? Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Yeah it went in various vents, windscreen, centre ones, both side ones and only a little bit up the footwell vent. The camera is about 8mm in diameter. I have looked all over the floor in the car and also given it a good shake to listen for any rattles but getting no where fast.
I'm also getting a bit confused as to why I'm the one trying to find it, when she's the one who lost it?!?

Just get a couple of mates to help you roll the car on its back, the ring will then just drop out. If you have genuine roof bars it probably won't even scratch the roof much Razz

PS. Are you sure she actually dropped it in there and its not just a ruse to keep you in the car and out of the pub? FL2 Metropolis, Loire Blue, ebony/ivory
