Tyre pressures and wheel nut torque should be in the caravan handbook. As a general guide, single axle vans are normally about 50psi for tyres double axle vans are normally lower 32-35 psi. Wheel nut torque is normally 65lbsft for steel wheels and 85lbsft for alloy wheels.

I also had a caravan wheel come off in Germany - I suspected at the time it was an anti English type that loosened them.

I guess the anti caravan comments are amusing once or twice - but very tiresome and childish when it keeps on . .

Further to previous, When i purchased a new 'Leisure' battery for my caravan, the shop assistant informed me that the battery would need to be charged over 14 hours, as it only holds a nominal amount and it is "surprising how many customers return to say it is a faulty battery when it needed to be charged". Well, I did not know and took this advice and put it on charge using my car battery charger several hours later - surprise, did not take a charge. I thought this as strange and cannot be another dud battery! I sought info on 'leisure' batteries on the internet and...behold, a different charger is required! Evil or Very Mad as a car charger does not provide the 'deep' charging required. I purchased a charger over the internet and it worked Very Happy

I wonder if any fellow caravaners have encountered this same problem? The other thought is whether the installed charger in a caravan system is of the car type Question if it is, then it is useless for recharging!

jimbob4755,
I have read somewhere that the best battery charger for leisure batteries is the type you mentioned. As they charge the battery correctly it prolongs the life of the battery (especially if the battery is being charged from flat).
These chargers tend to be more expensive.
I have never known a car battery charger not to charge a good leisure battery. Chargers fitted to caravans tend to be the car type but generally they will do the job but are not ideal.

Jimbo,
Refer to your caravan handbook for torque settings for your wheel nuts / tyre pressures etc...

What has your leisure battery got to do with this thread?

Thanks everyone for the comments. The good news is the service dealer has been out to see the van today and there isn't much damage. He is going to fix it obviously at no charge. However there is something to remember from this incident and that is- CHECK YOUR NUTS OFTEN.
