Driving my vehicle earlier, I went to turn a corner and lost all power, as the engine cut out. I started it straight away, drove for a further 500 yards, and power was lost again. Plenty of fuel (diesel) in the tank. I've got the vehicle back home, but I'm wondering what the problem could be? It may never happen again, but I can only imagine what could happen if it went on a motorway etc. I would think that a diagnostic check may point to what went wrong.
Any ideas?

I think you are right a check on any fault codes is the way to go.

I'm in the RAC, but would they have the diagnostic equipment to identify any fault codes?

Well, I phoned the RAC. They turned up and started the engine, then said, 'take it to a Land Rover dealer to put it on a diagnostic check'. I wasn't too happy with that, but there's a new company local to me who only repair/service Land Rovers. Anyway, vehicle put on test, no fault could be found. The guy drove my vehicle for a few miles (with me as a passenger) and went slow/fast, pulling off fast etc, to see if it would cut out. Nothing, sweet as a nut! He didn't have a clue what caused it, and said to continue driving it 'until it happens again'. The test cost me £45, against the £90 that Stratstone charge.
I've been out in the vehicle, and covered around 80 miles, and no fault. I'm as apprehensive as hell, and worried that it could cut out any time. But I can't just leave my vehicle outside my house.

Earth modification seems a cheap way to start attacking back on some electrical issues on some early models I am lead to believe reading up on here. Do a search and see what you think.  FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Presumably no warning messages on the dash ? A LR Assist guy once told me that if you have a fault code then certain ones they can disappear if the fault clears - brilliant what sort of error logging is that! I have had these cars go into reduced power mode and then no code logged at all. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

i had a FL2 that would cut out, this happened after a short blip and a bounce of the rev needle

no fault code, but they deduced that the radiator was full of mud, causing the engine to turn off due to it thinking it was over heating, even though it wasn't, they replaced the thermostat, just before finding the radiator and the mud and blamed that, even though that was there for 18months prior

So i think it was a faulty thermostat, and nothing to do with the mud Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I had the same, engine would cut out and restart immediately, you would be thrown forwards the thrown hard back in to the seat, no codes stored, turned out to be the Crank Sensor and Relucter Ring, it cannot leave a fault code if the Relucter ring is failing to generate one. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

The two times it happened, the engine just cut out, but did not restart. I wonder if Land Rover themselves know about this potentially deadly fault?

That's some scary stuff right there. I have to say I think it'd be worth taking to an LR dealer just to see what they say - £90 is a small amount to pay in comparison to the lack of trust you will have in the vehicle. Not worth the safety of yourself, your passengers or other road users. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

rac can plug in to the obd socket you should of asked him to do it although it should be the first thing they do.
