Battery clamp

Hi guys,

Needed to fit a new battery to my Freelander, the other one went flat. Tried re-charging it but it wouldn't charge above 60amps.

Bought a new battery from Halfords; Yuasa 12V Silver HSB110 85ah 800a.

Fitted the battery this evening but can't get the securing bracket to fit. Does it matter if I leave it off?

When my FL1 battery clamp bolt snapped off I was told that an insecure battery is an MOT failure. However in the case of the FL2 you would need to remove the cover to inspect it. Probably a good idea to fix it somehow though. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

It must be secured not wise or legal to leave it I think.

Needs to be secure as you don't want the battery bouncing about with the potential comnsequences of a short across the terminals.
Definitely an MOT failure as mentioned
Take care!

Hmm, I should know better really.

I wondered if anyone else had the same issue and left it off. Battery weighs a ton, not sure it'll go far. But you're quite right, all it could take is a bump or pot hole and it could dislodge.

I was also wondering the same, I noticed the OP's one is a 85Ah 800A one, I replaced mine recently with a Yuasa one from my local ABS, it's a Yuasa 80Ah, 720A and it's a perfect fit.

Edited to add; Yuasa part# of mine - YBX3110

Halfrauds are not known for their accuracy in supplying the correct parts. On quite a few occasions I've had the wrong parts recommended and supplied by them so I stick to the main LR dealer for parts for my F2 which I've had from new and never had any problems - in fact in respect of windscreen wipers it was cheaper at the main dealer and fitted free while I waited and had a coffee.

Halfords used to fit car bulbs for free. My daughter had a Renault Megane which had a particularly difficult headlamp bulb on one side so I took it in. It took two people about an hour to sort it and only then because one of the girls in the shop had really small hands. After that I noticed that they started charging. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Trouble is if the car did go up in flames as soon as the insurance saw that they wouldn't pay out.

Fix for fitting HSB110 battery

Just to complete this old post, I had exactly same problem with HSB110 battery from Halfords.
When I returned it, Halfords staff showed me there's removable plastic strips on each side near the bottom. When both are prised off, the clamp sat flush on the bottom rim and the battery fitted perfectly.

Lol, when I had my battery fitted by Halfords, I had to show them how to remove these strips to make it fit! 2005 D3 2.7 Auto
