My good deed for the day.

Riding home this afternoon, alongside a busy road I spotted two Canadian geese and a flock of chicks in distress - they were trapped between the road and a wire fence. Thing is, I know the area well and there is no lake for miles around. I can only assume they had recently hatched somewhere away from water.

Anyway, I stopped and tried phoning the police and the RSPCA - neither wanted to know and both referred me to the other!

I couldn't just leave them so I walked along the fence until I found a hole which I stamped down to make bigger. I then shepherded the hissing mum and dad through it and then caught the young 'uns, all five of them, and chucked them through as well. Had to give them a good chuck to clear nettles and tall grass etc. They were last seen heading in the direction of a lake a couple of miles away. I hope they made it.

Well done, I'd have done the same!

A couple of months ago I was travelling to work, on a black ice morning, no gritters, I saw a lump on the opposite side of the road, as a Freelander approached the lump, I realised as did the driver it was a small tawny owl, luckily it didn't flinch, I stopped after sliding @ 80 yards, ( as did the freelander driver) walked back and chased it into the trees, uninjured!!

I got a photo of it in the tree, lucky bird

looks like the RSPCA maybe be returning to their brief, and dropping the political nonsense.
