England 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Santorini Black

I always thought the FL2 looked a little like a baby RRS when they first came out,

I like the mock up pictures earlier in this thread, but basically a smaller, cheaper RRS would be nice ........................... oh hang on im getting confused with the DS now.

How about something stylish, practical, reliable and reasonably priced that doesn't just follow the trendy Chelsea tractor design that people fall for now..............

Possibly, have to wait and see on that one!
For the time being there is no more LR's badged "Freelander"'and that's quite desirable for me having
one of the last.
Frankly, this car still brings a big smile to my face every time I get in it. MY15

Yep, all of the above. Plus a proper 4x4 drivetrain, with low box and a diff in place of the haldex (torsen or limited slip or even just lockable). Plus better underbody protection and another inch or so of ground clearance (not air suspension though - that's more cost and more to go wrong.

Basically, turn it into a proper Land Rover, not the fashion accessory LRs have become.

Oh, and the last thing it should be is 'desirable', other than to people who actually want a 4x4.

Consider yourself one of the lucky ones. There's been a fair few on here that have only had that big smile when they got rid of theirs but I suppose that could apply to almost any Land/Range Rover model with the possible exception of the Defender. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Me too. And in four years of ownership all I've had to do is replace the rear discs and the wheel arch rubbers. It needs a new tailgate switch now, but that's not going to break the bank. I'm glad I didn't bother with an extended warranty!

My D4 was £42k and I still had to spend £710 on xenons.

The next car for me won't be a Land Rover. It will be the new Volvo V90 D5 AWD. Going up to Volvo dealers to see about a test drive. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

My LR dealer and Volvo are in the same building, just a gangway separating them, quite amusing stepping from one side to the other comparing and watching the sales staff wondering whether to jump in or are you kicking tyres. Certainly allows you to assess all in peace Smile my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I'm not so sure about either of those!

Ingenium doesn't seem to be living up to its promise, in terms of either fuel efficiency or refinement, and still seems to be lagging behind the best. Does it really make sense for a company the size of JLR to design and build its own engines? Or would it have been better continuing to buy in from Ford or another major manufacturer? So a new Freelander should have a new engine, yes, but I'm not sure it should be an Ingenium!

As for the 9-speed box, it's having some pretty significant reliability issues, and even when it's working not everyone likes it. Some love it, but many testers have found it just too busy, constantly changing gear, hunting between gears, etc. The 9 gears are there to make the fuel consumption test figures look good, not for driveability. For driveability it's too many.

As for Volvo, the XC90 might perhaps tempt me, but it's just plain UGLY from the front, and they seem to have adopted LR's approach to pricing!

I had a 2015 plate Jaguar XF 2.2D 8 speed auto as a courtesy car a couple of weeks ago

it was quick, the gearbox was smooth but it wasn't as fuel efficient as I would have hoped and I felt the 8 gears were just too many as it kept searching as the revs were too low in the highest gears.

the sat nav was basically the same as my 2010 FL2 as well so not massively improved IMO.

I didn't find the 8 speed auto much better (if at all) than the 6 speed ive got now
