GPS more questions

Does the standard gps pack, include Bluetooth phone connection?

Jags GPS looks very much like the Freelander 2 GPS and all jags have Bluetooth as standard, that incidentally works fine.

Does the standard GPS have speeding warnings and camera warnings?

Are third part disks available are upgrade disks available?

Does the standard GPS screen have touch climate and audio controls?

Does the DAB radio have separate controls or are they incorporated in the radio .

Thanks

Stan

earlier XS/SE/HSE came as standard with Bluetooth but for phone calls only, no music streaming.

SE/HSE came as standard with Satnav, but there are no speed or camera warning, just a TMC function to monitor traffic flow

not sure if 3rd party disks are available but Volvo discs are compatible with LR satnav, only upgrades are newer release mapping.

Sat Nav and climate/audio are completely separate, the sat nav disc unit is located under the driver seat and the screen will only control/show sat nav info.

DAB is incorporated in the head unit but is only available on certain models or as an extra fit.

Bear in mind that previous owners may have paid for optional extras so you may find an XS model with full leather, nav and panoramic roof.

You need to be more specific about what MY your are enquiring about.
Earlier Freelander 2's had a disc navigation system whereas later model have HDD Navigation.
The climate control setup you are talking about is from the later models but is slightly different in the fl2 as the touchscreen climate system is for "timed heating and cooling" only as the climate module is below in the central dash.
DAB was available from late 2008 onwards. It is integrated, earlier model functionality is from head unit whilst later models from touchscreen.
Bluetooth covers phone and music streaming from MY13 onwards I believe.
Again depending on the MY, some Jaguar use the same hardware as the FL2.

I assume the photo you included was from a 2013?
That interface looks more friendly than on my 2005 jag

I,m working on a limited budget, and new to the Freelander so trying to cram as much before I buy

Don't worry about the factory Navigation on an early model, if it's a 2013 onwards with the Meridian then yes it's a must, but the nav in earlier models is absolutely not worth the bother.

Touchscreen in the early models is only for Navigation, no additional features or anything to do with other vehicle functions.

Are you buying new or used? Limited budget suggests used.

If going for a pre-2013 model then don't worry about finding one with Nav. A TomTom or other standalone unit is an easy retrofit and much better functionality.

The only thing in a pre-2013 is get the Alpine branded "MidLine" audio which has subwoofer. The Base Audio cars are extremely limited in what you can do in regards to adding missing features.

2013 onwards the Meridian with Nav is a must have.

Happy hunting!

A little off topic, but my MY13 SE doesn't have sat nav. How hard (also expensive) is a retrofit?

I bought a couple of copies of this reprinted 1934 Gregory's street directory a few years ago (2006) & they work perfectly ok for my area of Sydney! A lot cheaper than GPS.

My fiance drives the car for the most part, and I fear that without an electronic GPS she may leave and not find her way back Shocked Smile

A couple of years ago I spent 4 months driving around Italy, Germany & a few other places. Did the same previously in France. No mobile, no computer, no GPS. We bought a few of those old paper maps & they work perfectly ok!

OK so that eBay unit actually looks like it could be better value (compared to OEM), if it works as promised.

The HDD nav unit in the FL2 is about $2000 as a spare part, and I could not find any second hand units for sale anywhere.

I'm just curious as to how they solve the GPS receiver, since this is usually mounted in the roof dome. Which yours may not even have? Plus cabling, plus CCF editing, plus, plus...

Curious to know how they get the softkey to pop up on the screen without editing the CCF.

Not sure I could justify $1250 when I paid $150 for my TomTom, but if it works as promised.... 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

Tomtom wouldn't be an option, unless you stick it to your screen Big Cry , as the touchscreen is a part of the diagnostic MOST link break circuit. Taking out the touchscreen would disable the whole network.
This option is good to keep factory look and functionality.
Be interesting to see this system installed and working. MY15
