Music streaming device needed

Hi All, I need to get all my CDs onto computer and then want to get a music streaming device to use in the other car via Bluetooth. I have about 350 album size CDs and would like some advice as to what devices would hold that capacity and what you have found to be good. I use Apple products, but also open to other makes of devises, I currently have iPad and iPhone but don't want to use either device for this purpose. This is a realm I have never ventured as yet but would like to get into it. I would also like to use the device with headphones when training. Do you get a different quality of sound from different products? The higher sound quality the better. Do I rip them as MP3? How good is MP3 quality?
Advice really appreciated as I am greener than novice level!
Cheers,
Rich.

You want bluetooth audio streaming in the FL2 or other car? (you mentioned other car)

I've been looking at some different units that might work with the FL2 system, since it runs on the MOST fiber optic network, same as a lot of other vehicles; Jaguar, Mercedes, Audi, BMW, etc...

This one lists the Freelander 2 as being compatible http://www.mobridge.us/products/m2connect-most

And then there is Dension http://www.dension.com/products/car-multim...ay-500s-bt

Dension was the OEM supplier to Jaguar and Land Rover for the Audio Connectivity Modules that were fitted to the Jag X-Type, S-Type, XJ, XK as well as the ACM that was an optional accessory on the FL2, RRS, Disco 3, and so on.

If I hadn't done the OEM Bluetooth phone retrofit on mine, i would have probably gone for one of these units instead.

Just because Dension doesn't list a module as being compatible with the car, doesn't mean it won't work. MOST is MOST. For example most people have loaded the Mercedes firmware to the Jaguar ACM to unlock different functions. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

Hi Cambo, no I am just after the streaming device for another car, so ipod nano, etc. not the actual interface. I am just interested with what people would recommend as I have no idea where to start.
The other car has Bluetooth streaming availability on it, so I just need something to store my music and connect via Bluetooth to the other car.
Thanks.

Oh so you want the device that stores the music, not the receiver in the car... got it.

I'm a little antiquated myself, all my music is on a USB stick which is plugged in, it's my experience that the sound quality is better with a direct wired connection than via bluetooth. But that's just me...

I guess most people these days put all their music on their phones, iPods seem to be a little redundant since an iPhone does everything an iPod does and more.

I have two iPods myself, have not used either in years. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

I use my ipod and iphone all the time, but the amount of storage needed would render each device useless. I am also looking for something that I can run with and the 6s is just too big for that!

Gonna get a bit techy here. With regards to what device would hold all your albums, it depends on the quality you rip them at. If you rip them at a low bitrate, ie 128kbps then you would get them on a decent sized iPod. Lower quality may be ok for many lower end car stereos, but if you intend on using the ripped music as your main source of music in the house and put the CDs in the loft then you want to rip at a much higher bitrate to ensure you get good quality audio on any home stereos.

Bigger bit rates = bigger file sizes and so you need more storage.

As for what you want to use to stream them, you could go as simple as a cheap Android tablet that has Bluetooth and a microSD card slot. Buy a 128gb card and you're done. The quality of the device has zero influence on the sound quality when broadcast over Bluetooth in the car. Or if you have a mobile phone (smart phone) or a newer iPod touch you could do it that way.

Personally I wouldn't worry about storing all 350 CDs at once in the car device - I tend to periodically change the music on my phone as it is too easy to spend a car journey skipping every track that comes on when you have 3000 songs Smile FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

Thanks for the advice, yes I am interested in better sound quality so will need a higher bit rate. Maybe you are right and I need to rethink if I need all of the music in the car, hmmm?

Certainly Ive found unless you love every track from every album you are likely to only listen to a handful of albums on a daily basis. Changing over the albums you have periodically works better for me. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

I was reading an article recently about HiFi (ie proper HiFi with proper amps and big speakers etc) and how people have got so used to highly compressed and processed MP3 and listening on earpieces or low quality speakers (like the ones in cars) that they don't realise just how bad it really is. I suppose lifestyles have changed as I don't listen to "proper" Hifi anymore either. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Totally, everyone is used to streaming quality, which isn't normally more than about 320kbps, if you're lucky.

But you notice it if you have a decent set of headphones for example and there's a lot of hi hat stuff - it sounds like the drummer is underwater. Rip at something like lossless and it is just crystal clear. Makes sense to rip once and use lots so do it properly. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

Slightly off topic, but having recently got my FL2 the radio/cd is a bit of a let down. My previous car had a SD card slot in the radio, which was brilliant, had about 800 songs on it. Trying to whittle 800 down to 80 songs for one cd was difficult Laughing
I could plug my phone in but then I can't skip tracks using the steering wheel! Rolling with laughter
