Warmest December ever recorded. 9.7C CET average for the whole month. Absolutely sickening! This is going to be a very mild winter with no snow and ice for the vast majority. A complete write off. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

^ Believe me, I would celebrate being wrong about this winter but the mild seems relentless, as does the rain. People kept saying in the 13/14 winter that January or February would deliver cold but it never came. Hideous winter that was. The meteorological winter begins 1st December as opposed to the astronomical winter which usually starts on the 21st but this year was the 22nd for some reason. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

The winter of 62/63 had a really mild December. Some forecasters think that weather events repeat themselves so maybe the mild December is a sign of a really bad winter?? All we can do is wait and see!

I was only 7 in '63 and remember the deep snow only started to fall in March. So there's plenty of time for the Biased Met Office weather forcasters to get it hopelessly wrong.......again. Remember that BBQ summer we were promised? Rolling with laughter

Wrong! I can remember the snow piled up in our street for literally months. As others have said, started at Christmas 1962 and was still on the ground at Easter time. Google it. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I have it on good authority its likely to get colder towards the middle/end of next week (along with yet another weather warning for wind/rain)
