£19.5k seems a good price for a trade in tbh. There is newer metal on the forecourts for not much more. I'd snap their hand off.

true, but none have any where near the same specification - which is why they offered such a good price.
(try and find a HSE with XENONS, Heated steering wheel, Reversing Camera & Meridian ) - even without the privicay glass, roof rails, and tow bar.

I couldnt find one anywhere

normally dealers wont be interested in the fitted optional extras, they will just give you a value based on the book price for your standard model.

When I sold mine in July the dealer agreed to push up to maximum book price because the extras would make it easier to sell.

Even so, they gave me £7300 and sold it for £9200 (although they did have to sort some minor dents/scrapes on the wheel arch from the previous owner)

it was the extras the made mine get the price it did - as originally asked for a price without them ( they hadnt seen the car)
The only thing they didnt like was the colour, apparently its a hard sell.
They told me they will probably forecourt it for 22.5k, and have to spend on it before hand around £800 to include the 2yr warranty, 90 for workshop time (PDI etc), and as with most of their cars, reduce price by around 300 per month, and typically keep it 3-4 months before they moved it on if unsold.

You also have to factor in the vat that they pay on the difference, plus an MOT, sales commission, advertising on Autotrader, Bank interest etc and you can see that they don't make that much on a vehicle after general overheads. One of my cars ended up on a small garage forecourt in Somerset and was there for nearly 10 months before being sold for about £1k more than I got for it. I read an article recently saying that most dealerships make more on servicing and warranty work than selling cars especially new ones. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

other than the wheel arch my car needed no work doing to it other than a forecourt valet. It had just been MOT'd and had a major service the month before (along with new DMF/Clutch the month before that, I then had the noisy rear end so decided to cut my losses although 60% of me regrets that decision now) so their only other overheads were advertising, warranty and VAT.

They had it for sale less than a week so their turnover was very quick.
